The Green Party's plan starts with families and experts leading the way. Instead of top-down decisions, education strategies would be co-produced and designed by those who know what works. To make this vision real, we want to see billions spent on better SEND provisions. That means more specialist staff, better early intervention, improving diagnosis pathways, inclusive classrooms, and practical support. By believing families and councils working cooperatively, we can ensure no child is left waiting for the help they need. The pressure to “perform” would be lifted too. High-stakes testing like SATs would be scrapped, replaced with continuous assessment that reflects real progress. Ofsted needs to be replaced by a supportive system focused on improvement, not punishment. And because mental health is foundational to learning, every school would have access to a qualified counsellor. This is more than policy. It’s a commitment to inclusion, compassion, and practical support. It’s a system that works for every child, not just the ones who fit the mould.

And while councils will collect this new charge, the revenue goes straight to central government, not to the local services our communities rely on.
It’s a step in the right direction, but it barely scratches the surface. Council tax is still based on 1991 property values, meaning many ordinary households pay more (as a share of their home’s value) than those in far wealthier areas.

£2,500 for homes worth £2m - £2.5m
£5,000 for homes worth £2.5m - £5m
£7,500 for homes worth over £5m

We tentatively welcome the mansion tax as a first step to address the growing wealth inequality, but this measure only serves to expose the gap created by a flawed and outdated council tax system.

Third are Reform with eighteen percent of the vote, a five-point decrease. Fourth are The Liberal Democrats with fourteen percent of the vote, a seven-point increase. Fifth are The Conservatives on five percent of the vote with a five-point decrease. These figures compare results from November seventeenth to those from November tenth and represent the combined eighteen to twenty-four and twenty-five to fifty age groups.

We urge everyone to resist the pull of reactionary politics and instead focus on the real solutions that fix the issues genuinely affecting our lives.

Standards Committees have faced a rising complaints without the tools to enforce meaningful consequences. These reforms finally give councils the authority to act. “Standards Committee continues to receive a high number of complaints, while the vast majority conduct themselves properly, there are a few councillors who really don’t” said Cllr Sara Armstrong. Some cases remain unresolved because certain councillors, despite being found to have breached the code of conduct, refuse to comply with sanctions.” Councils will be empowered to: - Suspend councillors / mayors for serious misconduct - Withhold allowances where behaviour falls short - Apply a single mandatory code of conduct - Use a national appeals process for fairness
We should hold all politicians to account - keeping councils transparent and fair, is our priority here.
