04.11.2025 04:30 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0Looks like there are 10-20 7.0-7.9 quakes/year. So it’s certainly uncommon but not wildly unlikely to have two big quakes close in time but in very different places. Maybe it’s more common than we’d expected, similar to the birthday paradox. earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/...

Should also say @stressrelated.bsky.social has some great comments in the comment thread about oxidation and reduction in the Navajo SS, RE hydrocarbons. That’s thought to be responsible for the range of color from orange-red to sugar cookie dough color throughout the very widespread formation.

There is no version of deep-sea mining that offsets terrestrial mining. The commercialization of deep-sea mining may accelerate terrestrial mining. It is an additive impact.
I forgot alt text. First video is of a tire with a bunch of soap bubbles. Second post in thread is a photo of a tire tread with a circle around a puncture.
16.08.2025 02:53 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0Not very impressed with these Yokohama Geolandars, in terms of durability. Seems like a minor amount of damage to cause a leak (were inflated within 1-2 psi of spec before leak). Should be a quick patch, but when it comes time for new tires I’m almost certainly choosing something else.
