Scientists calculate the cost on climate and human lives of gas project emissions Fossil fuel companies and governments have argued itโ€™s not possible to link climate impacts to specific projects, but Australian researchers have done the numbers.

Why Santos is behind your soaring electricity and mortgage costs It was a primary force behind Australiaโ€™s inflationary surge, itโ€™s forced businesses either to the wall or to shift offshore, undermined national industry policy and resulted in the loss of countless thousands of jobs. And it all hinged on one disastrous decision in an Adelaide boardroom.

Electricity generation costs would be up to 50% higher in Australia without renewables, analysis shows Griffith University experts reveal that the 30% increase in consumer power bills since 2021 would have been worse under fossil fuel only scenario * Get our breaking news email, free app or daily news podcast The cost of generating electricity would be up to 50% higher today if Australia had relied solely on coal and gas instead of pursuing renewables, according to new analysis. Right-leaning politicians and climate deniers have seized on the 30% increase in electricity bills since 2021 to call for new coal-fired power plants to replace renewable projects, claiming it would bring down energy bills. The first order of business for the Coalition: Fight a major battle over energy For nearly two decades, the Liberals have adopted fake climate policies to maintain Coalition unity. In the depths of their post-election despair, there would never be a better time to have a public fight over climate and energy.

The Liberals have taken an array of dud climate policies to the electorate over the past 17 years, writes Bernard Keane. Maybe it's time they tried real policies?

the reflexive "you can't say these fires are caused by climate change" argument is so boring.

when a life-long smoker gets lung cancer, we don't spend our time dancing around "well technically we don't know what caused it, it might have happened anyway".
