The 2008 Climate Change Act has been genuinely world leading and inspired many other countries to set similar climate laws.

The UK could technically stay in the 2015 Paris Agreement without it, but it would fall foul of its obligations and would trash decades of UK international leadership

The UK uses the Climate Change Act framework to set its national targets under the Paris Agreement. What’s next, will the Tories go full Donald Trump and pull the UK out of Paris?

If not, how do they plan to set the national climate targets required of the UK under the Paris Agreement?

James Cleverly a mess on net zero. Somehow tells Laura K he supports Badenoch wanting to scrap net zero by 2050 while also saying he supports and sees benefits of climate action

Starmer also clearly emotional having to defend this moving gift to his mum. Laura K backed off pretty quick when she realised her gotcha question was actually just a bit mean

Not the most discussed element of the summit but I think the commitment on UK participation in the internal energy market is v significant. Unambiguous cherry picking which shows both UK willingness to reintegrate into single market and EU willingness to be flexible about it.

Parliament should get a say over Starmer's trade deals It seems astonishing to think that parliament may not get a substantive vote on the principle of these agreements.

Shouldn’t Parliament have a say on new agreements with India, the US and the EU?

The government's climate plans are still ambitious and on-track, so why is Labour making so much anti-green noise? | Richard Power Sayeed With apparent support for airport expansion and fossil fuel exploration, it may look as if the party’s leaders are abandoning climate pledges, but it’s just pantomime, says writer Richard Power Sayeed

Despite the political noise, the economics of #NetZero are clear: clean energy investment is outpacing fossil fuels, and green industries are driving UK growth.

As E3G’s @elliemaeohagan.bsky.social puts it in @theguardian.com, 'The energy transition is unstoppable.'

On the trade side the talk is now of the summit delivering a 'political declaration' (maybe renamed to avoid nightmares of Brexit past). In effect a device to try to lead the cautious on both sides towards better future negotiations.

aka a roadmap. Not a new idea.

Post-Brexit Britain has a new best friend: Brazil The love-in between Keir Starmer and Lula centers on climate and trade. Just don’t mention Ukraine.

With the second age of Donald Trump looming, and European allies such as France and Germany hobbled by political instability, the UK has been on the hunt for new friends on the world stage.

And now it seems Prime Minister Keir Starmer has found a somewhat unlikely new BFF: Brazil.
