A tall woman with mint green hair, an alien cannon on one arm, who's making finger guns with her other hand and pointing it at the viewer. She has a wry grin. Her eyes are also 2 different colors. She's wearing a cropped gray sweat shirt and white underwear. The Background is a generic gradient with a subtle peach hue/light across the image.

Like if you're pushing out a game like CP2077 you can't have a small team of texture artists or content builders in the game--it's massive. A game requiring that much high-fidelity work--is a massive risk of capital for an industry dominated by corporations beholden to shareholders.

It feels like we're arguing lol, but I'm just meaning that assets--whether it's art or not, simply have higher work loads attached to them than in the 2000s or 2010s. 4K textures take more time to produce than 1K textures. 600 hours of VO takes longer to localize, edit, implement than 100.

I wouldn't say it sinks a project; I'm speaking toward the exponentially long production times for AAA development that balloons budgets/expectations. 300-500+ employees on payroll for a single project for 6-8 years becomes very expensive high risk asset for a company. rdr2/cp2077/AC series/GTA etc.

I honestly blame prestige open world design being the primary focus in most large budget games. The amount of time needed to produce enough high fidelity assets and a large seamless designed game world filled with content is exponential. It's not the only cause, but I think it's a huge reason.

As of Godot 4.3 I think it's been pretty viable. You can't use c# however if that's relevant. It explains it a bit in the web export docs below and the things to look out for, e.g. audio issues web players normally have. I haven't tested it myself though.

I use 16x16 tiles and a slightly smaller resolution than a lot of games--they usually do 640 x 360 because it fits well with a lot of different 16:9 resolutions. I chose 480x270 because I wanted as close to the same 240p height of an old CRT resolution. And thanks for the chef's kiss!
