It's really very good and highly recommended. I was enthralled by her account of life in a Lincolnshire village not so very far from where I went to school as a young teenager.

It's an enthralling book. I followed the lives of all the real-life characters with enormous interest and a rekindled love for my long-past Lincolnshire life! Thank you, Alison, for all the research and passion that went into its writing!

A thoroughly informative and entertaining day yesterday at our Nicholson Symposium at Cumbria Uni's Ambleside campus. Big thanks to speakers and attendees and special congrats on avoiding the temptation of the other show in town, Ambleside Beer & Music Festival - at least until our event concluded!

They were looking for the Cumbrian fells to which they had been hefted!

RS Thomas at his humorous best... a poet who matured like wine into something mellow and rounded...

And a lovely Lakeland Herdwick too, looking very wise!

It may be a brilliant book, but the assumption is that a housewife will be in the home all day, cleaning, clearing, tidying and cooking. Dearie me! It's 2025, not 1937!

Your work shows that you are both incredibly clever and very creative. You are a thinker, an artist, a poet and a writer. If the current university system can't perceive the breadth and scope of your intelligence, that's their problem! And universities are often keepers of dullness, anyway! xxx

Incidentally, the Cumbrian poet Norman Nicholson (1914-1987), published by Eliot at Faber & Faber, and awarded the Queen's Gold Medal for Poetry in 1977, found the same route to health and mental health after his life-limiting encounter with tuberculosis as a teenager. Great poetry was the result!

They are beautiful, reflective and above all intelligent pieces. We can all learn from your University of the Self...
