I was discussing this with some colleagues yesterday IRL and one consensus we reached is that the "both sides are just as bad" maxim has been swamped by recent events. Now for the "both sides suck" camp it seems more like "both are bad but one is much much worse"

20 years ago I remember a hangover from Chicago politics and various scandals branding Democrats as corrupt grifters and I don't know that we fully appreciate how much the tables have turned in terms of public opinion on that subject.
