Here's how much global emissions would fall if we followed the leaders in clean electricity Global power sector emissions reached 14.6 billion tonnes of CO2 in 2024. But they could be slashed by following best practices.

As a kiwi, I have only just started to learn about this horrendous history. The Australian Wars doco was very moving. Check out the rosie colonial history at one of these sites. Stolen land, murder the actual owners. maps.app.goo.gl/Jf9BsbVjRZxr...

Govt rolls back clean-up liabilities for offshore drillers

Five years after the taxpayers got left with a $300m clean-up bill for an oil field, Shane Jones is weakening the rules put in place to prevent a repeat.

Image shows 'Bank Lending' and 'Govt Spending' as 'money taps' - pouring money into the economy depending on appetite for bank loans and how much Govt decides to spend respectively.
The economy is shown as a money-go-round - with people exchanging money for goods. As money moves between people, work is done, people get paid, goods are made and consumed etc. Obviously this economy also relies on energy and materials.
Bank loan repayments and Govt taxation are shown as drains on the economy - rubbish bins - where money goes to die. This is indeed the reality.
Onshore and offshore savings remove money from the economy, but savings can also be spent. In NZ, net saving always wins out.

Haven't done a why is the economy in the toilet explainer for a while. Let's try again...
Money makes the economy go round. If people don't have money to spend, then fewer jobs are needed, and less energy and materials are consumed. Where does money come from? Easy... [🧡1/n]

Governance vs Operations.. we have a dystopian future government meddling in social media channel selection, next he'll be choosing which cheese to use in hospital meals

well she did better with Guyon Espiner this time. more work to do though, she did well to mention off-balance sheet debt on infrastructure health and poverty. more of that and overseas working examples

Govt shouldn't underwrite this. would be good to do a more comprehensive article on the various CC scams which have seen fossil fuel industry subsidised by the taxpayer to delay our reduction in fossil fuel use and delay investment into R&D on real solutions.

I wish Chloe got prepped a bit better. She is impressive but despite it being obvious what Jack Tame would (quite reasonably) ask, she didn't have decent answers on these policies. Played into RW hands. I hope she learned and gets her shit together next time.

gosh ACT and Nats really are better at business 🫣. Where is the best piece of work on overseas models where school lunches are provided, the costs and the outcomes. A lot of NAct supporters still think there should be no funded school lunches.
