Spent 10mins on a scam call from an Indian call centre attempting to persuade the young chap at the other end of the line that he was worth more than a job that steals from trusting people. To his credit, he didn't hang up immediately. I doubt he'll quit, but maybe he'll reflect.

Had a Proustian moment this morning. We'd run out of milk and had to use the dusty UHT carton for my cuppa. First waft of steam from the mug and I was back at my Nan's prefab, in front of the Parkray.

Slightly above average? God no. She's bang smack in the middle of average as a writer. Her earlier books are better than her later ones due to assertive editing. Without a conscientious editor, her books end up as the literary equivalent of cheap wallpaper, misaligned repeating patterns and all.
