Nature Beyond Cure: Disabled Perspectives
Books that explore nature and living with disability and illness from disability perspectives. No magical cures here!
I've made a new list on @bookshop.org of books that explore nature / walking / the outdoors by disabled, neurodivergent and chronically ill writers - Nature Beyond Cure - aka our own narratives are messy and complex. Do share! #BookSky #DisabledWriters

I will forever be haunted by this footage.
Trawling has only been filmed underwater a few times in documentary history, and never with such clarity.
Whatβs so heart-rending about these shots is watching how the animals donβt just get swept up β they swim for their lives.

A whitethroat perched on a thin branch, looking right
A yellowhammer on a branch of white blossom, facing left
A resting sand martin, adjusting its feathers
A reed bunting on a licheny twig, facing right
A few of many highlights from a lovely walk up the Ouse and north of York on Friday. Sand martins, reed buntings and my first spots of a yellowhammer and whitethroats. #ukbirding #yorkbirding

Starlings over Holgate in York this afternoon - Iβd been looking to find good sites anywhere in Yorkshire, and suddenly they have arrived 5 minutes from our house! #naturewriting #natureonyourdoorstep

Agh, thanks Mike - thatβs another one to add to the βto-readβ list! On the same theme, Iβm currently reading and greatly enjoying The Man Who Made Things Out of Trees, by Robert Penn.

Bottom half of picture is a level wheat field in summer. Top half is a pale blue sky with a few clouds. On the horizon is a solitary, modest, thin tree.
I love a lot of the lone trees in the vast landscapes of the Yorkshire Wolds and Moors. This was taken near Huggate some years ago now.

A thorny gooseberry branch and its red/orange leaf, lightly coated on frost.
A cape gooseberry husk, with a ladybird and a little frost.
A bright yellow cape gooseberry, with husk, and small frosty leaves
A hand holding 10 yellow cape gooseberries
A glorious, crisp frost on the allotment this morning, and an unexpected delicacy: naturally frozen cape gooseberries.

Thereβs a beautiful ginkgo near my kidsβ school here in York, and our youngest used to love collecting the leaves. I took this last winter: one of the last few leaves of 2023, clinging on tenaciously.

A flat green field, with the sun breaking through clouds
A calm stretch of the River Ouse near York, with grassy bank in the foreground and trees on the opposite bank reflected in the water.
Will start my efforts here with a couple of blue(ish) sky glimpses from this morning - a peaceful walk alongside the Ouse, from York to Moor Monkton and Redhouse Wood. #natureonyourdoorstep #yorkshirenature #yorkpics
