The rabbit did not escape. Yesterday morning I noticed about 8 magpies coming out from under the car, each with beak full of rabbit fur. A few minutes later, a sharp-shinned hawk arrived, scattering the magpies. The hawk dragged the rabbit out but then flew off. The weasel returned to salvage lunch.

We’ve lived in this house for 25 years. Today, I saw my first white weasel. It was chasing a rabbit about 3x its size. The critter is also called an ermine.
