After a long and arduous journey, I'm super happy to announce my first AI publication! This was a study that I helped design before starting my PhD. I'm grateful that I got the opportunity to continue contributing to the study after leaving NTU! dx.doi.org/10.1155/hbe2...

✨Publication Alert!✨

A short piece in the Journal of Medical Ethics. This time about a worry from reading a paper arguing for an obligation to create genetically-related children. Deviating from my regular Antinatalist work, but an important subject nonetheless!

After a brief publication dry spell, my third is finally out in Bioethics! This piece is the first to be published in a series of projects that studies downstream normative upshots from antinatalism!

Not a philosophical argument at all, and indeed fully biased by my own views:

I spend a lot of my free time at a gym that has our local news station cast on TVs 24/7. I've never wanted to procreate less.

Is germline genome‐editing person‐affecting or identity‐affecting, and does it matter? Writers have debated whether germline genome-editing is person-affecting or identity-affecting. The difference is thought to be ethically relevant to whether we should choose genome-editing or choose...

Everyone loves a good non-identity problem question 🀣 but guess what, when it comes to promoting health, it's not as relevant as philosophers think. Andy McGee and I respond to
Julian Savulescu, Jeff McMahan (our helpful reviewer), and Rob Sparrow!

Time to Admit It: Trump Is a Great President. He’s Still Trying To Be a Good One. The most consequential presidents divided the nation β€” before β€œreuniting it on a new level of understanding.”

Another outlet absolutely caputulates to Trump's Fascistic vision, that greatness is simply a function of power and influence. We are called to admire greatness, nevermind if it is in service of a morally bankrupt core.

I was invited to give a little lecture at the University of Tokyo's Centre for Biomedical Ethics and Law today. I had so much fun!

Special thanks are due to Eisuke-sensei, who set up this seminar, put me up in the university's guest accomodations, and hosted me with such warmth!

Kaya toast: the Singaporean breakfast of champions.

Kaya is a coconut and pandan jam that's aromatic and rich, typically served with fridge-cold butter clamped between crispy toast. Soft-boiled (more poached, by western standards) eggs seasoned with soy sauce and white pepper on the side.

Antinatalism is still a young philosophy in the literature with plenty to flesh out (and defend) in its core philosophical tenets, but this is a good primer to the general thesis!

Nasi Padang: a dish that hails from the Padang region of Indonesia, often made local by our Malay community. Customers can opt to create their own meals by picking dishes to go with their rice, or to share their dishes tapas-style. Heavily spiced and heavily spicy!

One of the most important local foods - the humble Fishball Noodle. Infinitely customisable, cheap, and filling fare. Choice of egg or rice noodles, in broth or dry. My go-to order is mee pok (think tagliatelle), dry with extra chilli.

Reduces my suffering quite substantially, this stuff.

To begin, allow me to wax lyrical about the superior coffee: Kopi.

Kopi is made with Robusta beans (instead of Arabica beans). The academic in me revels in the fact that Robusta beans are more caffeine-rich, but it's all about flavour: much less fruity and oily, deep and intense bitter goodness!

Aside from nerdy academic things, I also enjoy food. Maybe a little too much. Drawing inspiration from a colleague, I think I'll start posting Singaporean food content alongside my regular nerddom! Maybe one day I'll become the CBmE's official food tour guide for our guests.
