A comparison to demonstrate how I retrieve weak colour information from a faded autochrome: I never paint on new colour to digitally colourise a photo, I only ever work with & boost the colour information in the original plate. This photo shows WWI French war graves at Laffaux on Moday 14th May 1917

Taken exactly 97 years ago this month - in June 1928 - this beautiful autochrome study of a German garden in Baden is a wondrous riot of colour. I just love the 'twenties outfit with cloche hat and aqua marine scarf! It is all original colour, not colourised. π

A map on tiles showing railway lines across the north of England, headed NORTH EASTERN RAILWAY. In a frame of orange-brown tiles, mounted on a stone wall. There is a small interpretation panel below the map.

A certificate from the Chesterfield Musical Festival 1934, certifying that the Settlement Singers gained 2nd Class Female Voice Choirs.
A handwritten time table. The sheet of paper is divided into rows and columns with times above and entries such as 'Assembly', 'Prayers', 'Number with Handwork', Writing', Story or Nature Study' and 'Recreation'.
When we took this certificate out of its frame, we found a school timetable lurking underneath! We don't know which school it belongs to, but as the certificate is for a Chesterfield festival from 1934, the timetable is likely to be from around the same place and time.

Extract of a Land Values map showing the village of Swanwick. The printed black and white Ordnance Survey map has been annotated with colour boundaries and plot numbers corresponding to a separate schedule.
One of our most popular collections is D595 Inland Revenue: Derbyshire Valuation Offices. Whilst the title is not riveting, the collection contains maps and schedules giving extensive information about the owners and occupiers of land and property just prior to WW1.
