When I was organizing for a parish ministry we’d offer an $150-300 honorarium depending if it was participating in a panel or giving a lecture/talk and $1500-2000 for a two-three talk weekend retreat with accompaniment. $1000 for a single brand new talk outside the academic’s field of expertise.

I think many Christians are making a theological, not a historical, claim when they say that Jesus was Palestinian, in the same way they might say Jesus was black or any other persecuted group.

I disagree with Wink. I don’t think the Bible is all about love. I think Wink is all about love, and that’s what he reads into the message of the Bible.

Reading the Bible one doesn’t come across a singular sexual ethic based in love (even with the belief that God is love) unless one imposes that interpretation on the text. It’s not the worst hermeneutic, but it’s certainly not a reflection of the many different sexual ethics in the text
