A huge group of people are in a giant hole in the middle of a rolling field. There is a large sign with an arrow pointing to the hole that says "HOLE." Suddenly the group's attention turns to a new hole, complete with a giant sign with an arrow pointing to it that says "NEW HOLE." One person points to the new hole and says "hey look! Someone made a new hole!" The mass clamours out of the old hole and makes a bee-line toward the new hole. It's chaos. One person, now situated in the new hole says "this feels like how the old hole used to feel." Another person nods in agreement.

Reading this excellent book at the moment - Universal Play. Highly recommend it if you’re interested in a positive look at (and de-stigmatizing of) the relationship between games and mental health.

1 minspec Steamdeck would probably cost about 5x my estimated profits from the whole endeavour

There's two roads to "successful" game dev. One involves assembling a multidisciplinary team at the top of their field and finding a way to fund their intense labor for several years reinventing proven, classic designs.

The other just requires being the sort of person who'd have predicted planking

With the writing on the wall that EA studios will be doing some of the most heinous shit imaginable to make this business deal profitable, do gamers want to give $5 to an indie dev instead?

No? The game by the company who laid off 1/2 its staff charges you a monthly fee sells a skin you want? Ok.

My friends, 70 people on reddit, and 100 polite RIT students/alum who spoke to me in person are all just so happy and impressed with it.

And the second it gets to an actual real person in the world, it's bland, derivative refuse they couldn't be *paid* to play for more than 15 seconds.

Yeah, I fucking get it, I just suck at every single thing. I can't figure out other games? My fault. Other people can't figure out my game in 15 seconds? Also my fault.
