COP30 must confront the climate and cost of living crises together By Zack Polanski

Let's stop subsidising destruction.

This Govenrment need to stop standing on the side of polluters and instead tackle the cost of living crisis.

Some of my thoughts on COP 30 πŸ‘‡πŸΌ

Did u know? This is one of the most important organisms on earth - moss. It's amazing what it does to maintain healthy ecosystems. It minimises soil erosion; captures carbon; harbours tiny souls in its unique habitat & filters & purifies water & air in its dense structure - make room for moss. πŸŒ±πŸŒΏπŸ‡¬πŸ‡§πŸŒ±πŸŒπŸ¦

I’ve just announced I’ll be leading a National Emergency Briefing on 27 November . At a time when climate is in free fall on the political agenda , it’s vital our leaders realise what is at stake if we do not accelerate a just , green transition for all .

The artist Keith A Pettit spotted this photo and came up with this wood engraving based on it. I love it.

Did u know? On milder days, you'll still see pollinators on the wing, so it's a fab idea to have something in flower all year-round. These Fatsia japonica are in full bloom now (not indigenous, but hey-ho) and my wonderful wasps are taking full advantage of their lovely nectar rich blooms. πŸŒ±πŸŒΏπŸ‡¬πŸ‡§πŸŒ±πŸŒπŸͺ²

The government spends Β£2.7 BILLION a year on TAX BREAKS for oil and gas companies

Those companies pay billions to their shareholders

And then lay off their workers

Think that's unfair?

Tell Rachel Reeves to stop propping up oil and gas companies and back workers instead…

Did u know? Newly emerged Queen bumblebees are busy feeding themselves with as much food as possible, to get them through the winter, as they sleep in holes/hollows/earth/grass. That's why every last summer flower in your garden is an important food source. Look at this magnificent lady. πŸŒ±πŸŒΏπŸ‡¬πŸ‡§πŸŒ±πŸŒπŸͺ²πŸ

Keir Starmer has no plans to attend COP30 climate summit in Brazil Final decision has yet to be made amid β€˜big fight inside government’ over trip by prime minister

A massive dereliction of leadership and duty, if true. A few years ago, Starmer branded Rishi Sunak’s absence from the world’s top #climate conference as a β€œfailure of leadership”. He was right then - he must do the right thing himself now #COP30

So powerfully put - and terrifyingly accurate. We no longer hear the truth, because the truth is deeply inconvenient & because it poses a direct challenge to vested interests - and as a result, our lurch towards climate catastrophe accelerates

Did u know?We need less of the left pic in our outside spaces, where nature is constricted. Nature needs more of the right pic - a free hand to ramble & run, with a light guiding touch at the edges.Such spaces provide food & shelter where small souls can live their best lives. πŸŒπŸŒΏπŸŒ±πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§πŸŒ±πŸ¦β€β¬›πŸ¦ŽπŸͺ²πŸ¦‹πŸž #rewilding

Forests are the natural hospitals for body and soul. You go in, no one asks you, no one gives you appointments for examinations, etc. You get what you need, and you feel better, and you are also delighted by the splendor and beauty. We need more forests worldwideπŸ’šπŸŒ³πŸŒ²πŸ€

Did u know? As Autumn approaches, it's a great time to see beautiful plump rosy rose hips on your bushes. Don't prune them off, because (apart from looking gorgeous)birds love to eat them throughout the winter. They're packed with nutrition & are a perfect food for feathered friends. πŸŒΏπŸŒ±πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§πŸŒ±πŸŒπŸ¦β€β¬›

My seven-year-old asked for a dictionary this week. We went to the bookshop today to buy one. She walked home hugging it, pausing every so often to look up a word, grinning as though she had been given a book of spells, the key to wonders.

#Seaweed farms are a dual solution for climate change & sustainable energy.
- don't require freshwater, fertilizer, or arable land to grow, making it one of the most eco-friendly resources
- naturally absorbs massive amounts of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere through photosynthesis helping

Major carbon sink may have vanished for a second year in a row Record heat in 2024 caused ecosystems on land to emit nearly as much carbon dioxide as they took out of the atmosphere

We’ve known for 25+years that #ecosystems were turning from #carbonsinks into #carbonsources. But this is where life on #Earth enters a vortex of runaway #climatechange if we can’t #restoretheplanet & #restoretheclimate at scale & at speed. #MillenniumAssessment

Water, trees, air, biodiversity and nature are the immutable guarantors of all our lives. If we do not respect, protect and value them, we are the ones who do not know how to respect, protect and value ourselves. Life is beautiful and is our responsibility.πŸ’šπŸŒ±πŸŒΏβ˜˜οΈπŸŒ³πŸŒ²πŸ€πŸ’š

With their leaves and needles, the trees act like giant filters. One ha. of beech forest can filter around 70 tons of dust out of the air every year, a ha. of spruce forest as much as 30 tons. In addition trees produce oxygen. Forests and parks as "green lungs" are important.🌳🌲

Studies show: Trees are the true air conditioners. Under a tree, the temperature can be 15 CΒ° cooler than measured in the ambient air. Shade and evaporation create the same effect as a conventional A/C, but without electricity. A tree produces about 20-30 KW/h, as much as ten A/C
