19.10.2025 10:48 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Hi @mothiduk.bsky.social . Drawing a blank with the moth below. Is it too faded to tell?
Any help gratefully received!
After an autumn largely filled with lunar, but not blue or red, underwings. The mild night with no moon brought a very welcome visitor!
#mothsmatter #teammoth
Agghh, uploaded the wrong Agriphila!
Don't post in a hurry is the moral of the story!
Yep, my mistake. Posted the wrong pic. Thankyou! π
20.08.2025 22:33 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 020/47, chilly and a bit windy. Macros were all tatty summer leftovers, except a fresh pale mottled willow. Some nice micros though:
Scythroppia crataegella, Phyllonorcyter genicullela and Agriphila tristella
#teammoth #mothsmatter
I obviously had annoyed this jersey tiger!
37 sp last night. Not as many as hoped but I guess the moon was near full and up all night.
Still, managed to get a nice triple clay lines and jersey tiger(lifers) and an interestingYpon plumbella (normally I just agg Ypon)
Nice 2nd generation poplar HM too.

Small wainscot
Herald
Only 15/46 with this small wainscot the highlights from last night.
So instead here is a herald and rush veneer i came across in my holiday in cornwall (wasn't allowed to bring the trap with me!) π

35/111 Nice rosy rustic and iron prominent. I think the micros is Cochylis molliculana which is not widespread but definitely a colony in Oxford.
Finishing up with gypsy moth which is having a good year, but I only catch males!
#teammoth #mothsmatter
I find the common footman to be the worst. You so much as look at them and they stick their legs in the air!
24.07.2025 19:34 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0A damp 28/73. Highlights being Udea fulvalis, seems to be a colony in Oxford...I'd forgot I trapped one last year! π
a common carpet that ain't that common for me and Evergestis forficalis.
Forficalis and fulvalis trapped mid August here last year.

Another YouTube web site that moth people will find interesting

Interesting bycatch this morning that is apparently Ephemera lineata. NBN doesn't have many sightings and nicely tracks the Thames (I'm just north of Oxford)
Is there a mayfly enthusiasts group?

Thankyou!

What determines your moth catch? More or less what you might think, with a bit of rain being a good thing on a warm night. #TeamMoth

Crikey, never expected to see moth enthusiasm in the FT! #teammoth #mothsmatter

Mostly processed Mondays moth madness. 72/152 with previous garden record being 51.
Highlights are the micros:
1. Gypsonoma aceriana (oy 2 iRecords for Oxon?)
2. Cameraria ohridella
3. Strathmopoda pedella (only 3 iRecords for Oxon)
4. Blastobasis lacticolella?
#mothsmatter #teammoth
100%. 4:30 start. Despite going quicker, I had to bail out at 6ish.
A colleague asked why I was staring at a wall this morning where there is an outside light.
They didn't understand when I explained!
Canary shouldered thorn
Smoky wainscot
Clouded silver
Oak hook tip
Before this year, my garden record was 42 species.
I stopped at 60 this morning as I had to go to work and just took loads of photos for the rest!
Simultaneously wondrous and intimidating!
Highlights below:
#teammoth #mothsmatter
Drinker (Euthrix potatoria).
Another image of Saturday's Drinker moth.
I'm unsure if I'll be adding any more shots today because I don't know how fast I can get through the pots in my fridge. Overnight, the quantity of micros was nuts. And now there are twelve Lunar Hornet Moths that have just arrived!
#teammoth #mothsmatter
Is there a more photogenic moth than a fresh buff arches?
Also interesting small ranunculus that's a #migrantlepidopetera ?
and Crassa unitella that seems to be a bit of an Oxon moth
Broke 50 species for the first time!
#mothsmatter #teammoth
Pick of a garden record 49 was this Schoenobius gigantella who seemed to be lost but very friendly (only 1 iRecord in Oxon).
Also a last minute spot of Elachista utonella (only a dozen iRecords and not in my reference book!)
There is no water near me!
#teammoth #mothsmatter
The lull before the Yponomeuta tidal wave. 41/84 with highlights being lifers including a tatty brown scallop, reddish light arches, dark arches and a rarish Bactra furfurana that must be lost as there's not much water near here! #teammoth #mothsmatter #naturephotography
21.06.2025 15:58 β π 10 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0When you go camping and the shower block lights attract a while raft of lifers (and a bonus white plume roosting in my tent)!
Included are a shy buff arches, lilac beauty and tawny barred angle. #mothsmatter ##teammoth #naturephotography
A changing cast list with new for me silver-ground carpet and a nice variety of lackeys. I have thrown in a posed buff tip because....well it's a cliche for a reason! #teammoth #mothsmatter #gardenwildlife
