I've always shifted somewhat and felt more connected to animals than people, but as my disabilities progressed the therian side of me seems to grow both stronger and more tired.

And due to my asthma and how chronically exhausted I get from minimal exercise, some of this yearning is probably rooted in the fact that I can't even run on two legs for more than a short burst without having an asthma attack or seizure

God I just. I wanna be able to do quads, but even stretching is enough to tire me out sometimes. Strengthening my wrists is so hard when my whole body gives way. I wanna run with the wind flowing in my fur and be able to stretch my legs out all the way, to race across the grass

None of these were really voluntary mindsets though, I've been shifting basically my whole life and just never knew it. The first noticable time I remember was after a childhood cat disappeared, so trauma is probably also a cause, which of course has built up over the years.

Similarly I think there's some overlay between therian shifts and autistic pet regression, at least in me. Regressing into a safer mindset- if I were a cat roaming the woods Id be free, none of the traumas or stress

I've come to the realization lately that, at least partially, the desire to be able to run on all fours effortlessly, or even fly, is probably my subconscious yearning for able-bodiedness. Something I'll never have
