This photograph was taken in 2012 inside a remarkably unremarkable hotel room in Desert Hot Springs. Faced with an utterly plain environment, I had to get creative with minimal props. The single hanging lamp was the only source of visual interest, so I took the opportunity to truly test the Nikon D200’s high ISO performance. The resulting moody shot now, years later, reminds me of the distinctive aesthetic of Christopher Doyle’s cinematography for Wong Kar-wai’s In the Mood for Love.

An unreleased 1997 photograph of Marne Lucas taken in Chicago. She’s reclining on a puffy sofa wearing a white vintage bra. There's a 35mm color version of this shot that appeared in my first book "The Beauty of Fetish" (Edition Stemmle, 1998) but this is a medium format black and white version of the same setup. I believe this was lit with a single tungsten work lamp which was then bounced off a white wall for fill. Makeup by Mark Katz.
