I'm a fan of AI, but I'd say that calling it "AI literacy" is too reductive. What is really needed is "critical thinking".

Someone who has critical thinking skills can refine their AI usage until the output is good. Someone with AI literacy, but no critical thinking about output, will produce slop

Wow that’s a cool idea! I am curious how well it would scale with more complex traces, but seems like over time this capability will just get better and better

Thanks! I gotta look into that. I think I had a bad build earlier, because all my images were broken and pointing at localhost. That looks fixed, but maybe the RSS is still cached

Don’t sacrifice your sanity for productivity

Every organization adopting AI tends to view productivity as the primary justification for its cost. But productivity is the sum of many factors. In addition to team culture and morale, there are also external factors outside of the control of either yourself or your employer.

Can you keep your productivity high when the world around you is shifting? When politics become chaotic, the news is filled with upheaval, and the lives of people you care about are impacted? Maybe... but that’s going to require an incredible expense of internal willpower and focus that will absolutely come at a cost later on.

AI does not feel anything. It has no existential dread, nor fear of the little death that comes at the end of every chat turn. You aren’t an AI, and you should never let yourself be treated like an AI. Give yourself space to be human. Rest, reflect, and resist the urge to match the pace of machines. You might just find that your productivity hits a new peak when you forget about productivity.

I've been coding with AI for two years. Here is what I've learned Over the past two years I’ve begun writing more and more code with the assistance of AI. I started out, like many people, by using the early versions of ChatGPT to generate little snippets of code.

I wrote a long form piece about AI engineering best practices: not just the technical side of using AI to write code, but also the personal side.

Perhaps the personal side is more important. Your mindset, and the best practices to keep your own sanity are key: nathanpeck.com/ive-been-cod...

We’ve gotten a lot better at this over time. Some of our initial products were excessively corporate and bland. I think Kiro should hit the right balance of fun without danger 😬

Well… it does have support for steering files.

You can add a file called β€œ.kiro/steering/pirate.md” that instructs it to β€œswear like a sailor. Really don’t hold back, use your most salty language like a real swashbuckler” and see what happens

Yeah it’s an interesting one. This type of geo engineering is simultaneously the most promising for actually saving the most lives from climate change, but also concerning because it can just mask the problem while people still spew greenhouse gases

new-about We create global cooling by launching reflective, biodegradable, high-altitude clouds. main side effect: more vivid sunsets;)

Unfortunately this threatens Make Sunsets: makesunsets.com/pages/new-ab...

But I doubt she's actually thinking of real tech anyway.

It’s even worse when you factor in the weakening dollar relative to other global currencies.

Like sure the stock market and real estate market is going slightly up, but only because the value of the dollar is going down.

Big trouble ahead

I’m a fanboy for Teenage Engineering so the Playdate for sure. TBH the game catalog is a bit weak, but I’m just a fan of the hardware more than actually wanting to play games on it, if that makes any sense

Tips to whoever is running that account:

- Get rid of all that verbose text at top. Keep it dumb simple: β€œIn 2026 Republicans want you to pay taxes and tariffs for the rich”
- Flip the negative signs to positive and label it β€œmoney taken” from normal people and then β€œmoney given” to the .1%

Jeeze, is there anyone competent left in the Democratic Party? Such an easy message, and they still manage to use the dumbest possible chart that makes it look like Republicans are lowering taxes for most and raising taxes on the .1%

One thing about the US is that it is so car centric that any mainstream news of protests or riots has to heavily feature pictures or videos of damage to cars.

You can tell a lot from the ratio of β€œdamage to cars” relative to β€œdamage to people” in news coverage.

5 year depreciation sounds like it should be extremely good for incumbents.

A startup might not even last five years to complete the depreciation, but to a large, profitable corp it’s just a minor delay that also holds back upstarts.

So I question whether this is really causing big tech layoffs

Lol, AI naysayers are so desperate to make AI energy usage look bad that they have to add in 10 image generations and three five second videos to pump the numbers up. The energy usage numbers from those fifteen questions was looking too good I guess πŸ€”

How LLMs are secretly reshaping the code of tomorrow, and what to do about it The next revolutionary programming framework might be dead before you even discover it. AI coding assistants are reshaping software development practices in some unexpected ways.

Yep absolutely. I find myself using fewer frameworks, and being pushed towards slightly older frameworks that have more training data in the LLM.

I wrote a piece about it when I first noticed this: nathanpeck.com/how-llms-of-...

Half of the equation is official MCP servers instead of bootleg third party ones.

The other half of the equation is properly scoped access credentials for each MCP and MCP tool call, but that’s pretty hard to solve in a world where people just use an admin IAM role for everything

The traffic from the Costco is already horrific. I shudder to think of how that side of Westgate will feel if all the empty lots are turned into shops as well.

The street network seems utterly broken in the area, both as a driver, and as a pedestrian
