I’m not arguing that being an atheist or even an anti-theist is wrong or even a flawed position to take. Just that people who belong to the New Atheist(TM) brand of antitheism typically merely use antitheism as an excuse to hate Muslims and Jews (and to a lesser extent members of other religions)

Sadly, a lot of antitheists who were influenced by the new atheist movement jumped on a reactionary bandwagon, turning any good faith philosophical critiques of theology into an excuse to push hatred against Muslims and Jews.

The people that have been driving the transphobic moral panic the hardest have been elite white Brits. The US took a page from them -- before it started here, we were well ahead of the UK in terms of trans rights. It was also aided and abetted by decidedly non-xtian people like J3sse S1ngal.

This system is failing to support people to transition not because it is broken, but by design. The frustrating thing is that this would not be a difficult problem to solve under a different political paradigm. Trans+ people do not need to be assessed by gender clinics or diagnosed by psychiatrists to tell us what we already know: we are trans. The healthcare we need, especially when it comes to hormones, is already available to cis people through making an appointment with their GP. Gender clinics are unnecessary and exist to segregate healthcare for Trans+ people. Abolishing this system and providing Trans+ healthcare in primary care, at the GP through an informed consent model, would solve many of the issues this data reveals. GPs already prescribe hormones to cis adults. Trans+ adults simply need the same access to this healthcare.

In Glasgow, there is a 224-year waiting list for gender clinic appointments.

224 YEARS.

This is institutionalised discrimination. It's unacceptable, it's ruining people's lives and it needs to change.

We have the solution. Time for politicians to act.

Let's be clear: this is the result of deliberate political choices to make accessing trans healthcare substantially impossible. It's what Streeting and his ilk want.

What I hear from multiple sources in the Scottish Government is that it feels defeated by the limitless spending power of the transphobes who, of course, are explicitly or implicitly underwritten by JK Rowling's vast fortune.

Also, MLK literally wrote in his Letter from a Birmingham Jail that Black people (and white allies) had a moral responsibility to break the law in protest of racism. He argued the opposite of compromise.

He actually didn’t. He was very adamant about *not* compromising. Just because he was non-violent does mot mean that he gave concessions to racists. He demanded full racial desegregation, and did not settle for anything less.

Because he isn’t being held to the same standard as everyone else. Hundreds if not thousands of accounts belonging to trans users and Palestinians were banned for far less serious ToS infractions, while a Nazi gets special treatment and mods change the rules to let him stay when he violates them

Watching Jay, I realize I am simply exhausted by folks in positions of leadership who are driven to distraction by critique.

If you can't function with critique and pushback, a leadership position is not for you.

Leadership REQUIRES you to absorb and process the critique of stakeholders.
