Wants to promote science, benevolence, mercy - in critical care medicine and elsewhere. (likes to write Scala software as well) And thinks that we should provide a clear feedback to the opponents (Putin, AFD, Trump, ...) of that goal: *NO*

Very sad and there is no excuse.

But what might be a bit of good news:
not many people are living there.

It looks bad on the landscape - but
about 80% did not vote for this evil party!

In the more densely populated areas the
AfD has undoubtedly too much but not
so many followers!

Climate researchers should play the Trump card | Brief letters Brief letters: Studying the climate crisis | Dangerous dogs | A teacherโ€™s scorn | Learning reluctantly | Whatevs, Megs

The obvious solution to American researchers having grants withdrawn for projects containing the word โ€œclimateโ€ ... is to rename climate heating โ€œTrumpโ€. We could be amazed that โ€œTrump makes seas riseโ€, โ€œTrump makes Greenland a green land againโ€ and โ€œTrump makes summer warmer and longerโ€.

NO KINGS is extremely effective because itโ€™s simple, an extremely widely held belief, and gets right to the core of Trumpโ€™s assault without having to use words lots of people donโ€™t understand

Silencing Science Tracker | Sabin Center for Climate Change Law

It is disturbing how the Trump regime is silencing and crippling science. We had a paleontology online seminar scheduled next week on Permian fossils and environments in Grand Canyon - but the US colleague planning to present has suddenly been sacked.

Cover of a commemorative issue of TIME magazine picturing the swearing in of President Barack Obama with his wife Michelle Obama in 2009.

15 years ago, in 2009, as a young postdoc at #MountSinai School of Medicine in NYC, I was deeply inspired not only by the world-class science & innovation in the US. What impressed me most was the unwavering optimism, the bold โ€œcan-doโ€ spirit, and the curiosity, openness & kindness of Americans. ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ

("Andere Lรคnder": 4900 - alles andere: 1603)

Laura Helmuth's impact on Scientific American & science journalism is immeasurable. She demonstrated how a major legacy publication could be a moral one: rigorous reporting on the climate crisis & untangling how science is political, such as explaining why trans kids deserve gender-affirming care

4/4:
We do not know the sweet spot and
- it will change over the years (patients now
are not the same as they were 20 years ago)
- it is very patient specific

3/X:
Yup - the algorithm has changed:
- Lactate instead of an Edwards catheter
(in my opinion: good but not suffcient)
- maybe less volume / norepi / whatever
- and adjunctive considerations:
(Thiamine deficiency, SGLT-2-Inhibitors, ...
when should we cover suspected comorbidities?)

2/X:
Rivers changed two things:
- early: stay in the patient room or come to it very often
- goal directed: clearly defined feedback loops:
+ in case A do B
+ in case C do D
+ ...
- reevaluate continuously

Some of us did this before - but
now it is common everywhere.

1/X:
When Rivers study was published it was better than the rest.
I'll exaggerate only a little bit:
Before Rivers most would visit the patient sometime and say
'i think the patient has sepsis - let's give him some XYZ'.
And some XYZ would have been given some time later.
And hours later...
