Knew the story from pop culture & I'm sure there are some very worthwhile critiques of this story, but I read it with great enjoyment. Expected the "4 feet/wings" problem to come up again at some point, really a shame that it didn't. Benjamin interested me the most.

A rare occasion where the beginning feels like the peak of the book. Loved Harker's time in Dracula's castle, but by the time we return to England... My goodness it drags on at parts. However, it was to be expected given the age of the novel. Climax was quicker than I expected.

Pretty much what I expect from a WC SE book, liked the cast in this one and the plot points were appealing despite the story being very grounded & simple. Didn't get frustrated & was moved by the ending.

Lots of good characters that are fun to follow around & to listen to, but way too much nothingburger action. Locations didn't really stick with me whatsoever. The history/lore seems interesting. Never tried Joe Abercrombie before, willing to finish the trilogy!

"People looking to do the right thing, but making bad decisions" is a pretty good way of describing this book. I mostly enjoyed the character work. Had a lot of banger quotes that gave me inspiration. If you don't mind reading a classic novel, I'd recommend it!

Hahaha, I know it was made in the 50s, but I agree with OP 😀. I spent most of the book wondering about the connections to Christianity. I'd heard about them before, but they were still a lot more overt than I believed they would be. Wouldn't personally read this to my own kids.

Not bad at all, I actually liked this book! Best out of the trilogy. Could imagine the story being confusing if you don't know the lore beforehand from YouTube videos, but maybe I'm just imagining that, since I knew the story well before reading.

Took too long for the "good part" of the story to start imo. When in-world explanations are offered, sometimes they feel retconned later on in a careless way. I liked the main couple fine for the most part. The end was shakier. MC should have been more upset.

I don't know what the hell happened to me while reading this book. It should be boring, but I wept and sobbed from beginning to end. I'm not an immigrant, but the other themes resonate so strongly with where I am in my life right now that it crushed me. I can't grade it.

I think it's a good historical fiction read if you're interested in the era. The plot's good & many of the events devastating, but there's something in the writing style itself that made me a bit disengaged at times. A lot to potentially analyze here.

Not giving this book a grade, but: I loved the trilogy, but not the way it ended. Felt super unsatisfying. I know the series continues from here, and that makes it better. This book could've maybe been shorter. I mostly liked it, but there's a looooooot of traveling.

This syntax course has literally made me, a grown ass man, cry over my incompetence and incapability to learn anything. Maybe I should just quit the course. I can't learn it. My brain rejects it. What am I supposed to do at that point?

There's an advanced course on English Syntax that I'm taking right now and it's reminding me of how bad I am at memorizing abstract BS. I feel like I don't have enough hours in a week to learn all the material. I've taken several days off just to focus on syntax this fall and it just won't stick.
