It's that scene from The Graduate (1967) where Mr McGuire is chatting with Benjamin at his graduation party. His terse advice for the future is "Plastics," presumably suggesting a promising future in that industry.

In this updated version, the key phrase has been changed to "graph networks", because graphs are amazing tools that uniquely capture complex phenomena in a variety of systems. Like social networks!

I’m a Millionaire. Tax Me More, Please. - Macleans.ca Wealthy Canadians like me can afford to pay extra for the greater good

Canadian entrepreneur Avi Bryant sold his startup to Twitter, made millions, and now wants higher taxes on the wealthy to lower inequality. He backs basic income, nonprofit housing, and land value tax.

Because Canada invested in himβ€”and it’s time to give back.

More news influencers on Bluesky posted there as first three months of 2025 progressed

There is also evidence that news influencers on Bluesky are using the site more than they were at the beginning of the year. About half (54%) of news influencers on Blueksy posted there in the first full week of January, but this share grew to 66% in the last full week of March.

During the same period, X remained popular but saw a small decline in activity: 92% of news influencers on X posted there in the first full week of January, compared with 87% in the last full week of March.

a man sitting at a table with a plate of food and the words this means something Alt: Weird Al Yankovich is seen here imitating the scene in Close Encounters of the Third Kind where the protagonist is on a sensemaking journey, synthesizing what he has observed so far, and is seemingly inspired as he sculpts a mountain of mashed potatoes on a plate in front of him, saying "This means something. This is important." This scene is paired with my quote-caption, "How I arrived on Bluesky," because I am a social media researcher / analyst here to observe and transcribe the ongoing discourse of Planet Earth during this unprecedented inflection point in history, via the weird and lovely mashed potato mountain that is Bluesky.

it's increasingly becoming a no-brainer to build new social apps on atproto

The problem isn’t America’s people. People are people. What’s unique about this moment is the amount and quality of the propaganda. Until we get that, we will never begin to shake the malaise that can keep the mass mobilization we need from happening while it still can.

A scene from Seinfeld where George and Jerry are discussing whether the woman George has been seeing is his girlfriend, based on various criteria of serious that they review together. In this Claude meme version, the new conversation is, George: [I] have 394 previous chats with Claude. Jerry: [well then] you got yourself a girlfriend.
