I have the same problem. On one hand, I have to worry about angering people that most people never have to worry about, often while traveling to places most people do not go to. On the other hand, I am already a public person whose identity, politics, works, and opinions are easy to find.

Sometimes I will break it down with "If you're concerned about X, then do Y, but you might be more worried about A, in which case do B." I can't get through every scenario, but it allows me to hit some of the more likely ones.

I just try to help people on the ground come up with the mitigations that work with their situation and that still allow them to do the things they need to do. This involves a lot of sighing heavily and saying "It depends..."

It all depends on what you are trying to accomplish. A lot of organizing is done in public and the details are not a secret. Some types of organizing require greater privacy or security considerations.

The level of solidarity and organization in the Twin Cities is a goddamn inspiration. We should all be taking notes and following suit.

I think that if you are using WhatsApp and you are concerned about being targeted by government surveillance malware, reducing your attack surface is good. If you do not trust Meta, I suggest using Signal.

This is the sort of thing that takes a very long time to decide on and implement, so I doubt that this is a response to the lawsuit. This is more likely to be a response to surveillance malware companies using WhatsApp vulns to get 0-click access to phones.
