One of the things that personally drives me crazy in the U.S. is how youth sports/athletic activities went from a part of the public good (municipal leagues and fields! rec centers! public parks!) to a privatized, expensive, highly competitive, highly structured pursuit for wealthy kids’ résumés

Different markets and all but we paid our student workers at my university $17.25/hour for unskilled office work.

I somehow got on the “Don’t vote because Dems have never done anything for anyone” algorithm and I want off.

That’s just too much stupid for anyone to have to read.

When I was in high school the Sgt. Peppers era Beatles were super popular. But my favorite is the Hard Day’s Night/I Wanna Hold Your Hand era that I fell in love with between 5th-7th grade listening to oldies radio.

I put money into a certificate of deposit this week as my last step to being a real adult.

Someone has sure already made this observation but the fact they can convert all those empty warehouses into prison camps means they could have converted them into housing, community centers, job training centers or, hell, libraries or schools all along. It’s always a matter of will not resources.
