And while the latter impressed me by telling its vital story from the distant past in rock-solid traditional style, RaMell Ross's daring first-person perspective + juggled timeline mixed with historical footage works just as feelingly, with the added thrill of seeing something formally inventive.

Now maybe my recency bias is on full blast, but I finally saw Nickel Boys, and now I've got a #1 and 1A for my Best Picture Oscar vote, along with I'm Still Here.
