Both Hawks and Magic have had success and felt themselves vs #Cavs in last couple seasons, so I conspiratorially wouldn't be surprised to see some small scale tanking in the first East #PlayIn game to dodge the Celtics.

So much of the #NBA this season has seemed to have been devised by the scheduling team on a weekend peyote retreat, but all 30 teams playing with 5 Western seeds TBD on the last day is a pretty watchable result... Enjoy it, childless #LeaguePass subscribers!

And while the latter impressed me by telling its vital story from the distant past in rock-solid traditional style, RaMell Ross's daring first-person perspective + juggled timeline mixed with historical footage works just as feelingly, with the added thrill of seeing something formally inventive.

Now maybe my recency bias is on full blast, but I finally saw Nickel Boys, and now I've got a #1 and 1A for my Best Picture Oscar vote, along with I'm Still Here.

So yeah, looking at images and reporting of creeping/surging craziness from voting booths to town halls to attacks on human services, I hope we won't let the bastards win. And whilst the fight is taking place, movies like I'm Still Here show how we can persevere with togetherness and joy.

And the film is beautifully executed top to bottom -- performances (Fernnda Torres is unshowily fantastic), casting, cinemotography, art direction, editing, score, music supervision, rhythm and coherence, highlighted by alternately big and quiet moments of earned dramatic tension.

Republicans, right wingers & straight-up fascists worldwide are seeing how much they can get away with; so Brazil's Walter Salles, his country emerging from a right-wing resurgence, crafting a true-life period drama detailing human costs of a prior military dictatorship definitely has my attention.

I'm primarily programmed to process the world and its weirdness through film and plays, and so in These Terrible Times, my theoretical Best Picture Oscar vote unconditionally goes to I'm Still Here.

The captions on the credits of an episode of English Teacher just asserted that the background vocals on She Drives Me Crazy by Fine Young Cannibals go "She drives me crazy...CUCKOO ... Like no one else" and I'm outraged by how wrong that is, and that I didn't come up with it first
