the more democrats concede to the republican war on trans people, the more that signals to the public that trans people are a problem and should be stigmatized.

the thing about “democrats should take popular cultural positions” is that what constitutes popular is a function of an interaction between the public and elites. if a faction of elites start screaming about a vulnerable minority and another faction says they have a point, this shapes the public.

Has it occured to them that one reason voters aren’t biting on the idea that liberal democracy is facing an existential threat is that they find it inconceivable the opposition party would be nattering about fucking egg prices if they really believed that were true?

You’re not obligated to do anything, you have to preserve yourself. But there is a difference between actively campaigning those people and being ready and willing to talk if someone does come to you and says “I was wrong.” Don’t stress about the former, but maybe be ready for the latter.
