(Bloomberg) -- The Arizona Public Safety Personnel Retirement System has locked in a sizable gain from its four-year investment in Ipswich Town Football Club, after the English side underwent a significant reshuffle of its ownership structure. PSPRS, which first backed Ipswich in 2021 through funds managed by ORG Portfolio Management, sold part of its stake to Portman Holdings LLC, which has acquired a controlling stake in Gamechanger 20 Ltd, Ipswich Town’s parent company.  Portman Holdings LLC is a newly formed group consisting of existing Ipswich investors including the Three Lions Fund, led by US businessmen Berke Bakay and Brett Johnson, and Clara Vista Partners, part of Bright Path Sports Partners and headed by Bob Gold. The group has collectively acquired enough shares to become Ipswich Town’s majority owner. The Arizona fund has been one of the few US public pensions to invest directly in European football. Investors have increasingly targeted lower-division clubs with strong fan base, hoping to ride promotion-linked valuation surges.

Ipswich Town was reportedly being valued at £375mm (or £325mm w/o promotion to the Prem) back in July. Arizona cops and firefighters making out like bandits, they've almost 10x'd since the £40mm valuation they bought in at in 2021.

This matters for Oregonians, as conservatives in the state are using the “Mississippi Miracle” as an excuse to defund public K-12 education in Oregon in favor of private charters. A couple of small-town districts have already done this (and their outcomes have been terrible)
