03.08.2025 22:35 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Greg Bluestein covered GPB as a state agency, then became one of its radio stare when it stole WRAS, then got a show on WABE which the AJC pulled in Feb ahead of the rescission fight.
Again, incestuous media is not independent media.
Is WABE still going to be subservient to Cox after all this?
Uh, WABE's thank you email after its post rescision pledge drive uses a "WABE Team" photo that includes Atlanta Journal-Constution reporters.
I know nobody in Atlanta takes conflicts of interest seriously when Cox media outlets are incolved but come on already.

Amid ongoing investigations of an alleged $140 million Ponzi scheme involving Georgia Republicans and pushed by right-wing radio hosts, the AJC has an interview with one of the hosts, their corporate cousin Erick Erickson, and ask him about ... his new afternoon YouTube show.

30.07.2025 19:57 β π 4 π 1 π¬ 0 π 0Both WABE and GPB told me via email that neither had received such letters so may not be currently under FCC scrutiny, but as NPR stations now have to seek funding to make up for federal cuts, Carr's FCC has indicated it will crackdown on sponsorships that blur the line w/ outright commercials.
30.07.2025 12:58 β π 1 π 1 π¬ 1 π 0Mr. Bannon: This letter responds to your Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request for: A list of all public radio stations sent letters by the FCC seeking information about their on-sponsorships and copies of the letters. The time period for this request are any letters se s year, or from Jan. Ist to March 15th 20 Your request has been assigned FOIA Control No. 2025-000683. The Enforcement Bureau, Investigations and Hearings Division, searched for responsive records. We located 106 pages of records responsive to your request. All of the responsive records located pursuant to your request are withheld for the reasons discussed below. Records responsive to your request were withheld under Exemption 7(A), which authorizes the withholding of "records or information compiled for law enforcement purposes the production of which could reasonably be expected to interfere with enforcement proceedings."' We anticipate that the release of these records, which were compiled for purposes of enforcing the Communications Act of 1934, as amended, and Commission rules, would harm the pending investigation and would interfere with the orderly collection of evidence. We have determined that it is reasonably foreseeable that disclosure would harm the Commission or the Federal govemment's law enforcement activities, which Exemption 7 is intended to protect. We are required by both the FOlA and the Commission's own rules to charge requesters certain fees associated with the costs of searching for, reviewing, and duplicating the sought after information.? To calculate the appropriate fee, requesters are classified as: (I) commercial use requesters; (2)

The irony is stark: my FOIA request, sent months ago, sought transparency on FCC investigations into public radio sponsorships and was denied under a 'law enforcement' exemption, while Carr used and celebrated a platform whose host was a proponent of a firm now accused of massive financial fraud.
30.07.2025 12:58 β π 1 π 1 π¬ 1 π 0Last week, the FCC denied my FOIA request for letters it sent to public radio stations about sponsorships.
Yesterday, FCC Chairman Brendan Carr appeared on the John Fredericks Radio Network, which actively promoted an alleged $140 million Ponzi scheme.

Cox has dominated Georgia media and politics since 1939. Some Dems, like Sen Warnock, have benefited, but it's now holding back Georgia Dems from a populist progressive politics.
