Maybe the weirdest-looking fungi in these parts are Helvella lacunosa/elfin saddles. Why I love them is their stipe (you know I love stipes!), sometimes, like this one, they almost look like a pen-and-ink illustration.

A boot strap is a loop used to help put your boot on.
