31.01.2026 15:12 โ ๐ 3 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0I did this but added a thin batting to get it to lay flat as the seams weren't flat enough. Also quilted a hash tag to keep it all together. The hash tag fit the irish chain quilt pattern. Just an idea... So cool to use your mom's quilt!!

10.01.2026 19:52 โ ๐ 2664 ๐ 89 ๐ฌ 245 ๐ 16The quilt front, draped over a dark blue couch. It is 8 squares across by 8 squares down, all made with fabric that has that blue-on-white Blue Willow-style pattern. The quilt measures roughly 60"x60". The seams where the squares meet are intentionally frayed and have a fluffy look and feel.
The back of the quilt, draped over a dark blue couch. The lower left corner of the quilt has been folded up so the front is visible. The back is made from a thrifted set of flannel bed sheets that are also in that blue-on-white Blue Willow-style design. The seams where the squares meet are smooth as all the edges are sewn to the front of the quilt. The middle layer of the quilt is also made from the same thrifted flannel bed sheets.
I don't quilt, but for some reason I decided my mother needed a rag quilt. Turned out fine (and she loves it), but cutting ~200 squares drove me up the wall. Will I make another? Not anytime soon. Learned a lot, though, and my already great respect for quilters and their art has only increased.

07.01.2026 21:49 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0A 14-inch sided square quilt block of a paper-pieced snowman. The snowman has a black top hat, carrot nose, red scarf, 3 coal buttons, and 2 stick arms. The eyes and mouth will be embroidered later. There is a bird "hovering" over one of the stick arms (legs to be embroidered later) and a birdhouse "hovering" under the other arm (waiting for a string to be embroidered, attaching it to the stick arm). Several snow covered bushes are on either side. The whole block is surrounded by a red border with yellow blocks in the corners. Pattern is from Beverly Maxvill's block of the month book "A Year of Paper Piecing 12 Sensational Seasonal Designs." This is January's "Mr. Snowman" block. I borrowed it from our library!
The backside of the block, showing paper that needs to be removed.
WIP Wednesday #Quiltsky! I needed a break from the news. Finished piecing my first FPP project. Need to remove the paper, then embroider details. Hoping to mail it Saturday for my parents' door in assisted living. Then jump on February's block, to send it before the start of the month! ๐
