Oh, good grief! All this talk about restrooms on federal land. At the Presidio National Park in San Francisco, we simply have restrooms β€” totally private (and clean!) toilet stalls used by everyone. There’s a common area in the middle for handwashing. Maybe that’s what’s needed in Congress.

I write this having spent my 39-year teaching career teaching in Catholic schools. However, I was educated in the public schools where we were encouraged become good citizens by voting and supporting democracy. Our religious training were left respective faith communities.

As I taught my journalism students at University of New Hampshire, the requirement is objectivity, not neutrality.

Moreover, every journalist should understand that reportage is just one of three dozen genres of journalism. Know your subgenre.

Third, never use a source you know to be a liar.
