I don't know if anyone will see this, but if you do, and you like science, what do you really like about science? Or specifically Biology?
(Cringey biology jokes can be an answer) #science #biology

Oh thank you, that's what I meant, if there are videos of the classes. Would they be publicly available?

Will you have videos? I love crows!

Wikipedia screenshots from the Jane Goodall entry. It reads: Gary Larson cartoon incident
In 1987, Gary Larson published a Far Side cartoon of two chimpanzees grooming, in which one discovers a blonde hair and says,
"Conducting a little more 'research' with that Jane Goodall tramp?" The Jane Goodall Institute called the cartoon an "atrocity" in a letter drafted by its lawyers to Larson and his syndicate. Goodall, who was in Africa at the time, later found the cartoon amusing. She went on to name it her favorite depiction of herself in pop culture.

Another Wikipedia screenshot: Larson offered profits from sales of a shirt featuring the cartoon to the Jane Goodall Institute. Goodall wrote the preface to
The Far Side Gallery 5, detailing her version of the controversy. She praised Larson's creative ideas, which often compare and contrast the behaviour of humans and animals. In 1988, Larson visited Goodall's research facility in Tanzania, and was attacked by a chimpanzee named Frodo.

I knew the first half of this storyβ€” that Gary Larsen’s cartoon joking Dr. Goodall was sleeping with chimpanzees caused her Institute to lawyer up only for her to find the comic super amusing upon her return from the fieldβ€” but I’d never heard Larsen got attacked by a chimpanzee!

Things like this convince me that modern systems expect scientists to magically fix everything while no one takes responsibility. More and more science is only used to fix people's messes, and since those are the only ones being handsomely paid, that's where people go. I'm sad now.

I first heard about these legendary animals thanks to the amazing artist Hubert Duprat. πŸ› He famously allowed caddisflies to build casings with e.g. gold and diamonds in the 1980s. πŸ’Ž These are now found in prestigious art collections, like Centre Pompidou, Paris! πŸ€©πŸ‡«πŸ‡· 3/x

A small white dingy sits on the slipway. It has recycled mahogany fittings. Oars and life jackets sit in the boat and a small blue painted outboard is mounted on the stern.

When I was a PhD student my friend & I bought a boat. It was delivered on a farmer’s trailer. It had rotten woodwork and holes in the fibreglass hull.

We scavenged some old lab benches (nice hardwood) & rebuilt it.

Named β€˜Plan B’ (plan β€˜A’ was supposed to be our studies).

Against the odds: 12 women who beat bias to succeed in science A book deftly highlights how women have been considered unsuitable as researchers for reasons other than their ability and commitment.

"Toilets come up in several of the 12 stories selected for John and Mary Gribbin’s gallery of female pioneers in science, AGAINST THE ODDS." Yes, let's have bathrooms available for all genders, everywhere! πŸ³οΈβ€βš§οΈπŸ³οΈβ€πŸŒˆ
