From her work as part of the Black liberation and anti-war movements to her abolitionist lens, Assata understood how U.S. state violence targets Black and brown people both within the U.S. and across the globe. In the syllabus, we explore the connections between Assata’s work and the struggles for justice today.

For this first Solidarity Syllabus, which coincides with Black History Month, we offer an invitation to begin learning more about the life and work of Assata Shakur, a Black liberation activist who lived in exile in Havana, Cuba, from 1984 until her death this past September at the age of 78. 3/
