Fixated on Ancient Greek literature, particularly satire. I have my grass-fed beef dealer on speed dial.

Patiently waiting for film scans to come back and then loving what you captured is *the best*

Being well adjusted to a sick society does not equal health. We must care about the things beyond our very skin and bones to truly be healthy.

Nebraska AD Troy Dannen on Sports Nightly:
He said Cook came to him last Thursday and said, "It's time to think about the transition."
They both had the same vision and it came together over the past five days.

social media is so weird because you’ll be watching a video of someone putting a record on to dance with her husband & think β€œthat’s so cute and candid” and then you realize they had to stop and film that *just* to post online and it makes you realize how everyone is living some type of VR even irl

Thinking about going back to schoolβ€”I already have a bachelors degree, masters, and half of a JD (I know you can’t really count that but still, it’s a lot of school overall). I need reasons to either do it or not. πŸ˜†

When I was in undergrad I really wanted to convert and live in a sprinter van and travel around.

I ended up going to law school because that seemed sensible.

8 years later and I wish I would have chosen the van.

I think, more than anything, I want to live fully. I want to feel the sun on my face, my toes in the grass, and have a purpose that excites me. So really nothing about a technological future excites me.

Lincoln, NE has the national quilt museum and I learned so much about history and the ways fibers play a role in things. There are also highly trained individuals whose job it is to repair quilts with the correct threads/material from correct years etc. and to preserve. Important work!

It’s cold here in Nebraska so wool layered on an organic cotton turtleneck and my fav Le Bon Shoppe pants it is - headed out to walk the dogs who very much do not care how cold it is

Definitely pricey, but our youngest has never been to a vet and the oldest only once when she was a pup. So it evens out IMO. Becoming friends/working for local farmers has been a godsend. Also we have a great local butcher shop, easy to get organs/other stuff people don’t want for cheap.

I also don’t think kibble is the answer. Too much processed junk and PUFAs.

We feed a variety of whole foods. Honestly it’s mainly just what we eat, but given to them raw if it’s meat/organs.

And you know what makes allergies worse? No sugar.

So it’s a cycle and it takes a long time to get back out of, as we’re experiencing with our dog. She had all the symptoms of being pre-diabetic, down to retinopathy. Happy to say we can tell that has reversed!

22.01.2025 22:44 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

The state that the body goes into when starved a sugar is basically a pre-diabetic state. Thus, the itchy dry skin, the fatigue, the weight loss, etc etc.

But this fb group just continually espouses β€œno sugar! Sugar bad!” and asks owners to spend thousands in allergy testing & feed novel protein$

22.01.2025 22:41 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

The body would prefer a steady stream of sugar coming in. Particularly simple sugars like honey, fruits, things of the like.

completely on glucose [read: sugar]. So it is willing to expend insane amounts of energy to make sugar to keep your brain functioning.

But the downside is that it wreaks havoc on other tissues and organs because the body doesn’t actually want to have to break down tissues to make sugar.

22.01.2025 22:37 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

This is true, and it is called gluconeogenesis, a process where your body breaks down muscle and other tissues since glucose is so important. The other option is death.

The thing about this process though is that it’s a BACK UP system for times of famineβ€”because the brain and nervous system runs

I’m in a raw fed dogs group on fb and I see a consistent pattern that also showed up in one of my dogs: itching and skin problems after 2-3 years on a raw food diet, which is always 80/10/10 meat/bone/organ. No carbs whatsoever because people say dogs can just produce their own sugar! So it’s ok!

So the funny and ironic thing to me is that people emulate the things that were being made fun of, but since satire is easy to miss if you don’t have full context, it can go right over heads. I see this in religious writings and interpretations as well.

I enjoyed reading this! I’ve noticed the same thing on twitter. I have an interest in Ancient Greece but I came about it through its literature, particularly its use of satire. Therefore, I came across a lot of writing that was satirizing the wider culture and its injustices.
