Time to update your Palaeolithic palettes... πŸ”΅

Very proud to share our new research on the OLDEST use of blue pigment! We identified traces of azurite - a vibrant blue mineral - on a stone object around 14-13,000 years old. Why is this so exciting? πŸ‘‡πŸΊ

Unused dentalux toothbrush from a cargo spill pictured among an array of brightly coloured plastic objects picked up from the beach

The Dentalux toothbrush shown here and found last week is from the cargo ship Wec Van Eyck, which lost a container of Lidl goods bound for Spain in Feb 22. Many years ago, a friend found 100s of unused toothbrushes washed up. He told us he had a lifetime's supply for his family.

Flaked glass bibliography: a resource for lithics studies I put this together for my PhD years ago, and sent it to the lithic email discussion list. Until recently it was still available online but ...

My PhD wasn't about space. It was a usewear and residue study of flaked glass artefacts that had been used for body modification, in the Pitt Rivers Museum. I made a bibliography of flaked glass and posted it to the Lithics-L back in 1998. Here it is if anyone is interested! πŸ§ͺ 🏺

"We’ll have skateboarders on site who used the park as teenagers and will be re-living that experience at the end of a trowel".

Promoting Indigenous sovereignty through scientific research By encouraging Indigenous participation in the sciences, professor Kim TallBear sees opportunities to reclaim some of what has been lost through colonization

This interview may not be seen as helpful in this moment to scientists who see "politics" as a dirty word.

But there is no outside the social. We help train Indigenous scientists to do science with joy in support of Indigenous life & governance, and we'll continue amidst volatile settler politics.

McMahon unwittingly reveals the essence of the Trump administration's confrontation with American universities: the demand that universities be "in sync" with what MAGA is trying to accomplish.

A string of painful-to-watch games. Fielding, base running, hitting, starting pitching, the bullpen. It’s hard to guess which will sour a game this season (and it’s usually more than one).
