Ok ok I caved... The Gansai Tambi Art Nouveau set will be arriving to me soon. Looks perfect for some floral paintings if you ask me...

For whatever reason my current thing I keep thinking about is watercolour paint, which is too bad because I don't need more paint

Very cool, while carrying on the groceries I full on rammed the doorframe with my good hand. Love it.

Revealed: How Substack makes money from hosting Nazi newsletters Exclusive: Site takes a cut of subscriptions to content that promotes far-right ideology, white supremacy and antisemitism

The Guardian: hereโ€™s how Substack makes money hosting Nazi newsletters. These newsletters werenโ€™t even hard to find or subtle: swastikas and in-app recommendations from one antisemitic newsletter to a bunch of others. [theguardian.com]

This Super Bowl Sunday, Iโ€™d like to introduce you all to the magical curse bowls used in Upper Mesopotamia and Syria in late antiquity. Written in Mandaic (as here) or Syriac Aramaic, they trap demons who trespass on a household by sucking them in with spiraling spells to the center of the bowl.

Podcasts I have enjoyed:

- Reply All
- In The Dark
- Finding Cleo
- Bear Brook
- Wind of Change

I'd describe what I like as interesting topics, minimal host banter - like I don't like podcasts where they're bantering about a murder.

Fun fact: Your local bookstore is doing more to protect you and your neighbors than Amazon is.

When you help make it so the only names people know are Pretti and Good, you reinforce the culture that says these things aren't "bad enough" until white people get involved. This has been going on for a whole year. Many non-white people have died in this same way trying to protect their neighbors.

One of those latecomers was a 46-year-old documentary filmmaker named Chad Knutson. On the morning after Good was killed, he was at home with his two hound dogs, watching a live feed from the Whipple Building, where ICE is based, a five-minute drive from his house. A protester had laid a rose on a makeshift memorial to Good. As Knutson watched, an ICE agent took the rose, put it in his lapel, and then mockingly gave it to a female ICE agent. They both laughed.

Knutson told me he had never been a protester. It seemed pointless, or just a way for people to expiate their sense of guilt. But when he saw those ICE agents laughing, something broke inside him.

โ€œI grab my keys, I grab a coat, and drive over,โ€ Knutson told me. โ€œI barely park my car and Iโ€™m running out screaming and crying, โ€˜You stole a fucking flower from a dead woman. Like, are any of you human anymore?โ€™โ€

Knutson now goes to the Whipple Building almost daily, bringing thermoses of hot coffee for the people who hold up signs and bellow at the ICE agents and convoys as they drive in and out. He has been tear-gassed so many times, he said, his voice has gone hoarse. When I met him at his house in St. Paul, a row of megaphones was on the counter. He hands them out along with the coffee. He once brought an ice-fishing clam, a portable shelter, to the Whipple to help the protesters withstand the subzero temperatures.

pretty incredible story in here about how you can go from sitting on your couch to radicalized and in the streets in record time:

On your end: If you are already subscribed to something like Amazon Prime, you're probably less likely to look elsewhere for your shopping because "I already have free shipping" - does to take more time to look elsewhere? Yup, but not that much. Think of it as short term pain for long term gain.

If a ton of people cancelled their subscription to a specific company or service, that would make the business way more unstable (even if some people still order occasionally) so unsubscribing is a good way to do something (rather than feeling helpless and like you're doing nothing)
