Most memorable Halloween of my life:

On Halloween night in 1985, I was in Egypt as part of a college study abroad program. We were at the Temple of Karnak in Luxor for the sound and lights show. A huge full moon was shining through the temple’s pillars as we waited for the show to start.

I usually start getting hit with "It's almost Halloween messages" around July.

The media is about to blitz us with stories about how awful Maduro is and I want you to remember that even if they're all true, they are being issued solely for the purpose of manufacturing consent for invading Venezuela and killing innocent people.

And they stand still and watch the potatoes float by, listen to the screaming pigs being killed in a ditch and covered with quick-lime, watch the mountains of oranges slop down to a putrefying ooze; and in the eyes of the people there is the failure; and in the eyes of the hungry there is a growing wrath. Steinbeck discussed this almost a century ago.
