The Shift Back to Gas | Norton Rose Fulbright The federal government is making a concerted effort to promote construction of new power plants that burn fossil fuels.

The natural gas industry is utterly unprepared to meet our critical energy needs. They will, however, happily take their pound of flesh up & down the supply chain while the getting is good.

This interview is a wild confession of as much: www.projectfinance.law/publications...

NEW | Solar is now California’s #1 electricity source β˜€οΈ

Over the past 12 months (to April), solar generated more electricity than any other source in California β€” surpassing gas for the first time in history.

Rapid solar + battery deployment will keep this trend going πŸ”‹βš‘οΈ

At a glance:
πŸ“ˆ Top revenue generators earned $6.26/kW β€” over 3x the fleet median
🎯 Top performers captured 115% of its DA TB2, while the median came in around 48%

Why do global fossil CO2 emissions continue to rise?

In simple aggregated terms: economic growth (orange) is too strong to be overcome by improvements in energy efficiency & structural change (green), & CO2 intensity of energy use (blue).

The uncomfortable truth for leftists is that a lot of low-carbon climate progress is being driven by elites who aren’t under pressure from mass movements.

The uncomfortable truth for elite climate wonks is that those gains won’t be enough to stabilize the climate. We still need mass green politics.

Managing Risk with Day-Ahead Energy Bidding - Tyba Energy Day-Ahead energy bidding in ERCOT presents a great revenue opportunity for energy storage operators to capture incremental upside β€” but only when paired with disciplined risk management.

DA energy is becoming a bigger part of the revenue stack for #energystorage operators in ERCOT. In January, DA energy accounted for 26% of total storage revenue in ERCOT, up from just 9% in 2024.

But DA comes with increased risk.

How are operators managing this risk - or not?

Did renewables capture a larger share of generation growth last year? Seems like more evidence for the energy addition thesis if that share is lowering.

Trump’s Freeze on Clean Energy Funding Harms States and Nonprofits Most Trump can stop Direct Pay grants but not tax credits.

Wishful thinking at best, but really goes to show why we needed direct pay, solar for all, etc.

Scatterplot titled β€œEmpirical Evidence of Ideological Targeting in Federal Layoffs: Agencies seen as liberal are significantly more likely to face DOGE layoffs.”
β€’	The x-axis represents Perceived Ideological Leaning of federal agencies, ranging from -2 (Most Liberal) to +2 (Most Conservative), based on survey responses from over 1,500 federal executives.
β€’	The y-axis shows Agency Size (Number of Staff) on a logarithmic scale from 1,000 to 1,000,000.

Each point represents a federal agency:
β€’	Red dots indicate agencies that experienced DOGE layoffs.
β€’	Gray dots indicate agencies with no layoffs.

Key Observations:
β€’	Liberal-leaning agencies (left side of the plot) are disproportionately represented among red dots, indicating higher layoff rates.
	β€’	Notable targeted agencies include:
β€’	HHS (Health & Human Services)
	β€’	EPA (Environmental Protection Agency)
β€’	NIH (National Institutes of Health)
β€’	CFPB (Consumer Financial Protection Bureau)
	β€’	Dept. of Education
β€’	USAID (U.S. Agency for International Development)
β€’	The National Nuclear Security Administration (DOE), despite its conservative leaning (+1 on the scale), is an exception among targeted agencies.
β€’	A notable outlier: the Department of Veterans Affairs (moderately conservative) also faced layoffs despite its size.

Takeaway:

The figure visually demonstrates that DOGE layoffs disproportionately targeted liberal-leaning agencies, supporting claims of ideological bias. The pattern reveals that layoffs were not driven by agency size or budget alone but were strongly associated with perceived ideology.

The DOGE firings have nothing to do with β€œefficiency” or β€œcutting waste.” They’re a direct push to weaken federal agencies perceived as liberal. This was evident from the start, and now the data confirms it: targeted agencies overwhelmingly those seen as more left-leaning. πŸ§΅β¬‡οΈ

Last year Elon Musk and SpaceX claimed the NLRB is unconstitutional after being accused of labor violations.

Now under Trump, the NLRB is dropping its opposition to this claim.

The labor board will no longer fight in court against the charges that it shouldn't exist.

The model we should be using for the current energy transition is that renewables wind up merely as a new layer on top of all previous energy sources.

The model which foresees renewables replacing previous sources is probably wrong, unless a new, very aggressive big bang effort is undertaken.πŸ”ŒπŸ’‘
