There’s a reason why it feels like the internet has gone bad | CNN Business Facebook is full of AI slop. X is full of β€œfree thinkers” peddling conspiracies. Google’s search results are telling us to eat rocks. More and more, it feels like the internet has gone bad.

This is a very interesting piece - worth reading!

Hello Bluesky! We’re Applied Epi! What do we want? To improve Applied Epidemiology worldwide! When do we want it? Well probably in an achievable timeframe that doesn’t completely destroy a much needed and already existing infrastructure that is overburdened!

Here a few thoughts about social media.

It seems as if we may be moving into the post-social media era.

Many people have realised by now that platforms like X have had their time.

There will continue to be people there who will shout and scream for a while.

I have spoken to many people who have given up on social media. As one of my friends said why spend time watching strangers quarrel with strangers...

The third question is whether abuse and extremism is an inherent part of social media.

I don't have an answer to these questions but would be interested to hear your views.

But it is no longer a platform that can be used for a meaningful debate or exchange of views in a civilised manner.

The first question is when journalists, governmental institutions and politicians decide to abandon X.

The second question is where do the go next

I am getting fed up with people bickering over LC. It exists, it is bad, and it needs solutions and treatments. What it does not need is unfair comparisons. What I mean is that we cannot compare incidence during a pandemic with incidences of endemic infections.

Tweet by @JPWeiland

Just for fun, I took @JWeiland’s (Twitter) wastewater-to-infections calibration and asked:

How often on average are people infected with covid in the US?

Is the rate increasing or decreasing?

A thread.
