There is that! I was at Rievaulx Abbey this afternoon and just stopped for 20 minutes peace and quiet on a bench. It definitely helped.

Sad not to be at this year's HA conference, and looking forward to hearing all about it from @petejackson.bsky.social on Monday. On the plus side, it's a lovely day to recce our Y7 site study trip to Rievaulx Abbey!

These look great! I really like the site evidence focus. That should definitely help the students.

What a lovely way to end the term! I hope it proves to have been useful too, but showing that engaging with History can be enjoyable is also very valuable.

It'd be a pleasure to share Tom's post even without the opportunity to win three of his books. He writes excellent, well researched historical fiction for young people. Highly recommend to history teachers, parents and anyone who enjoys a good story!

Using stories in the classroom - a thread...
Here is the 1st story that myself and @benbassett.bsky.social worked on from Sept on Sacagawea. Here is the most recent one on Thomas Tresham for Elizabethans.
Here is a thread of 10 things I've learned this year about telling better historical stories

They're great stories, Ben! Yes, it will be good to meet at SHP.

I taught this story on Thursday. Hats off to @benbassett.bsky.social and @petejackson.bsky.social for the work they've been doing. It was a very powerful moment in he classroom.

This was a really helpful blog, thanks for sharing. Helping trainees feel part of the school community is crucial. But I know I'm also grateful to tutors and mentors who helped me feel part of the wider History teaching community and I try to share that with begining teachers too.

It's a real privilege mentoring beginning teachers and helping them embark on their first steps as History teachers. So proud of @lydiawigley.bsky.social and all that she has achieved so far. And I love that we will meet again as part of the big History teaching community.

I loved reading that, Rich. Thank you so much for sharing it for those of us who weren't there. Really helpful thinking.

Leon's story is at the centre of our Y9 Holocaust lessons and telling it is such a moving moment for me as a teacher and so powerful for our students. It's so important that we keep telling these stories. And thanks to the @uclholocaust.bsky.social for all their help with resources and CPD.

Let children use ChatGPT to do their homework, says Science Secretary Peter Kyle said AI could be used in schools to 'challenge' children or support those with learning difficulties

This shows a fundamental misunderstanding of why homework is done.
Doing the homework, thinking, should support learning.

This seems to suggest the purpose of homwork is just to generate the work. A culture of doing, not learning.

Thinking matters.

That Thomas Platter story was great in my Y10 lesson today. Really helpful for thinking about the reasons for different attitudes to the theatre. Thanks @benbassett.bsky.social and @petejackson.bsky.social!
