Super excited to kick-off our new series on strategies for states to lead on a pro-nature energy buildout! This starter piece is a broad overview/rebuttal of the clean energy vs. conservation argument, but we have future policy deep dives in the work so keep an eye out!
27.08.2025 16:36 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0The Trump admin has spread misinformation overstating the harms of renewables to wildlife to justify stifling affordable, rapid-to-deploy, clean energy. 27.08.2025 16:32 β π 8 π 3 π¬ 0 π 1The Trump admin and congress are squeezing wind power from both sides: with the wind permitting pause still in place and DOI adding layers of high-level review, many projects will not be able to start construction to meet new deadlines for tax credits they may have been counting on ππ‘

This project was approved under FAST-41, meaning it had expedited permit approvals. It also had labor, domestic supply chain, power offtake agreements for communities attached to it... meaning a whole lot of high quality American jobs and affordable energy just went up in flames.
Our research dives into the IRA Energy Community adder that supports projects in brownfields and communities impacted by the fossil fuel transition. It finds that 1500+ projects were eligible for the adder - many of the projects yet to start construction now may be at risk with the early termination

As much as 72 percent of all clean energy capacity that would have been built over the next decade would disappear if clean energy investments are terminated.
That would wipe out more than half of all new electricity capacity additions to the grid. Whoa.
Just another way Trump is jacking up energy bills for everyday Americans: he's keeping expensive, dirty coal plants open that no one wants or needs. Not even the utilities who own the plants!
www.nytimes.com/2025/06/06/c...
House Republicans tonight proposed blanket rescissions of funding that is still available from Biden's Inflation Reduction Act for cleaning up ports, trucking, schools, and manufacturing, for investments in new businesses, air monitoring, and environmental justice communities.

We hope that these examples can be a blueprint for a more effective approach that centers the importance of nearshore habitats and smart state/local policy. Under an administration that is rolling back environmental protections and funding, state leadership will be even more crucial. (5/6)
05.05.2025 15:22 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Luckily, there are a TON of great examples of effective, community-led ocean conservation being championed by state and local orgs, that we sourced from a big survey of the ocean conservation community and highlight in this report. (4/6)
05.05.2025 15:22 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Despite their relatively small footprints, nearshore habitats are critical for coastal jobs, cultures, and resilience. They are also some of the most vulnerable. Focusing conservation closer to shore will bring benefits for coastal communities, but also its own set of political and social challenges
