British plugs also have physical shutters in the socket preventing any access to live & neutral, only opened when their holes are filled and ground contact is being made by the 3rd pin, there's also some very specific requirements about sizings on sockets to prevent improper insertion

A lesson learnt the hard way, snipe? :P
