One day, Oxford Street in London will look like this...
(And soon after, so will Princes Street in Edinburgh and probably South Bridge too, I devoutly hope!)
A reminder of what the Fossil fuel and motor industry has done to the planet in the last century...

To celebrate #WorldStatisticsDay, we thought we'd share these interesting statistics on transport investment...
For every Β£1 invested, this is what the country gets back in wider economic benefits:

Keep this in mind when people claim cars mean business β closing Central #Madrid to cars over holidays resulted in a 9.5% boost in retail spending on its main shopping street: STUDY.
There was also a 71% drop in air pollution.

30.09.2025 10:12 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Today was one of my favourite lectures, on how evidence influences debates.
Case A: 79 people died as a consequence of smart motorways (2010-2024). That's sufficient to pause the policy.
Case B: In the first year of the Welsh 20mph scheme 900 fewer people were injured. There's still contestation.
Journalists call for language that recognises human agency, avoids speculation, & refrains from calling collisions βaccidentsβ ... They remind journalists not to present vehicles as if they act independently, but to identify drivers

25.09.2025 17:15 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Trudeau named not reforming the voting system as his big regret. Starmer shouldn't repeat his mistake.
The stakes are now much higher than just who wins the next election.
When there's such a disconnect between how people vote and who wins seats, trust in democracy is at risk.
Γ fantastic project. Though I will miss some of the views.

They increase business and more importantly provide a great cultural space for the community to rally around
They also show that a community is willing to prioritize people over cars!
This is an excellent idea.
04.08.2025 15:02 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Paris Street filled without outdoor seating during the pandemic
To ensure cars didnβt just take back ownership of Paris streets as the pandemic was ending (like they did in so many cities), Mayor @annehidalgo.bsky.social made sure that 60k parking spaces and many streets were permanently transformed with restaurant seating, people-places, greening, & bike-lanes.
