The slide of the UK water industry into the state it is in now started with privatisation. I was working in the industry then and watched 'asset sweating' and 'maintenance efficiency' gradually erode the treatment works and pipe systems into poorer and poorer condition.

Every eve and morn we are treated to a gathering of jackdaws (and a few crows) in the trees around our garden before they fly off to their roost for the night - hundreds of them.
They fly in in small and large groups, rest in the trees and when they are content they are all there, off they fly.
