A Mayor for Dorset The devolution arrangement we should be pushing for.

Here’s something I wrote earlier this year about why we should be pushing for a Dorset devolution arrangement.

Nothing says love for flag and country like a crudely spray-painted cross above some urinals in a public toilet block. Literally what is patriotic about this?

If that’s what they think then no one’s making them live in it. But they have no right to stop other people who need somewhere to live.

Good to see the council’s long-running arguments why BCP can’t/shouldn’t have to build as many homes thrown out.

Sadly predictable that BCP’s draft local plan has been rejected, given that the submitted plan only proposed building just over half the legally required number of new homes.

On the bright side, it’s nice to have a government that actually enforces housing targets.

Vance is a little twerp who clearly just wanted to attack and goad Zelenskyy in front of the cameras. And then complained when he responded in front of said cameras.

Could work! I think either whole region (minus Cornwall) or urban area level devolution would be preferable to Dorset + half of Somerset + most/all of Wiltshire.

I very much disagree with Tom on this, but isn't he entitled to state his opinion? He has his own views and his own democratic mandate.

BCP, Dorset, Somerset and Wiltshire Councils' Wessex Devolution bid rejected for now A bid for Devolution by BCP, Dorset, Somerset and Wiltshire Councils has been turned down by the Government, meaning the proposed joint Wessex combined authority will not be going ahead. The four cou...

I never really understood why Heart of Wessex was treated like it was inevitable. It didn't really meet any of the white paper criteria other than population.

Hopefully this means we can now push for something better, like a Dorset deal.

Plans for Weymouth seafront flats REFUSED PLANS to change the use of the upper floors of a Weymouth Esplanade building to five flats have been refused.

Flats in an existing building on the Weymouth seafront blocked because residents might smell fish and chips…

At this point the Government should step in. Dorset Council clearly has no interest in allowing new housing.

The whole planning system needs complete overhaul from top to bottom. The job of planners should be to get things built, not find any reason to block them.

Dorset Council officers are recommending refusal for a small development of 7 terraced houses on brownfield land in Weymouth.

The reason? The road leading to them might flood once every 200 years.
