There are so many studies and articles written by trad publishers/editors that reinforce marketing budget is what makes a bestseller in trad pub. Not quality. So yes, def never link sales to artistic know-how.

By prose, I mean real authorial control, a voice that isn't a cardboard cut-out of a million other books, and a polished MS (ie professional line edit). Show me word-love as well as story-love. Gimme the poets.

My DNF is loaded with undeveloped voices. So sample or bust on websites. 👍

Readers, what do you *have* to know about a book before you buy? Tropes? Author bio? Goodreads rating? Does the dog die?

Mine is prose style. Prose prose prose. I only buy if I can see a page or so sample. Don't care how grand the storytelling is. Not eating a delicious pizza clad in a moldy box.🤷‍♂️

Love a solid prologue. MYRIAD bk 1 starts out with a prologue that uses a different voice and even different dialogue tag and spelling conventions, bc it's a different character writing... I enjoy that kind of play as a reader, so ofc had fun with it as a writer...
