Look folks gen AI videos are out in the wild so if you weren't already being careful about sharing rage bait videos then now is a great time to start

If you can't trace a video back to a trusted source then I recommend leaving it where it is, like a slice of bologna you found on the street

This is increasingly common and absolutely tragic.

The simplest reason why the Trump administration is cutting off SNAP, despite adequate reserves, is that they hate the program and don't care about the people who depend upon it.
They are breaking the law not to provide SNAP while also enforcing the "equal treatment rules" to hurt SNAP users.

A few days later came another night I'll never forget - the Israelis for Peace vigil marking two years since the Hamas attack of Oct. 7, 2023.
Hundreds gathered - Israelis, Palestinians, Jews, Arabs, Americans - huddled together on folding chairs in Union Square in chilly weather, under an open sky. As part of a wide-ranging lineup, from the stage, I read a message from Liat Atzili, whose husband Aviv was killed that day; a short, piercing story by Etgar Keret; and a poem by Mahmoud Darwish that hung in the air like a spell.
And there was Mamdani again, sitting quietly in the front row next to Lander. He didn't take the microphone.
He didn't try to center the event on himself. He was just listening. Bearing witness.
His presence wasn't performative. It was pastoral. In a city that so often divides its grief by identity, he crossed the invisible line and simply showed up.
That's when it hit me: This is what safety looks like. Not fences or slogans, not solidarity-as-branding - but the radical act of standing with people in pain, without needing to own or edit it.

I canceled my own "hometown" paper and subscribed to the Inquirer at the beginning of the year. They are covering local and also national news well in my opinion.

Choosing the VPN That's Right for You VPN stands for β€œVirtual Private Network.” When you connect to a VPN, all data that you send (such as the requests to servers when browsing the web) appears to originate from the VPN itself, rather than your internet service provider (ISP). it gets tiring to keep explaining what it means to be poor to people.

it is not that poor people don’t know that cooking is cheaper:

cooking costs time. it costs pots and pans. it costs a working stove and your utilities on. it costs you’ve been on your feet all day and your babies are tired.

Relatedly, EFF has a cellular spying tool called Rayhunter that’s fairly easy to setup. It’s a portable device but does not run on your phone, so not quite the same thing as this Android feature below.

"Such technofixes for the climate, in fact, lead us down a dangerous road, both because they displace far safer and more reliable optionsβ€”namely the clean energy transitionβ€”and because they provide an excuse for business-as-usual burning of fossil fuels."

Pretty sick of a status quo that allows corporations to destroy the environment, oligarchs to commit fraud, theft, graft, sexual assault and smash the constitution to pieces but people on SNAP are the problem

I'm thinking about the mass disabling events in Gaza, Sudan and the Congo and all the people who will become disabled and have less resources to navigate that.

Happy Trans Awareness Month!Β This month, and every month, we celebrate the beauty, strength, and brilliance of trans lives.

We honor the resilience of our trans ancestors who paved the way and continue their legacy as we carry it forward today.

SNAP benefits feed essential needs while still leaving many hungry for more Journalist and author Adam Chandler explains what so much of the conversation about them gets wrong.

As SNAP hangs in the balance for nearly 42 million people, misinformation is rampant. Myths of laziness and fraud persist when we should be talking about too low wages for workers, income inequality, and our threadbare social safety net.

In this guest post, Adam Chandler sorts fact from fiction:

Guillermo del Toro’s New Frankenstein Adaptation is Life-Giving One of the most recognizable words in our modern culture is β€œFrankenstein.” But in Guillermo del Toro’s magnificent new adaptation of Mary Shelley’s 1818 novel, another name…

"Del Toro... deftly reads Shelley’s text as a story of parental abandonment, building out a wider story of parental abuse and neglect, emphasizing the tragic dehumanization and alienation that the Creature experiences after being forced into existence."

Independent bookstores are donating to food banks and organizations that help with food insecurity.

This is why Gavin Newsom is a non-starter for me.

Sure, he's "a fighter" who's landed a few good punches on Trump, but that's not the same thing as a leader.

A real leader doesn't fight back against an authoritarian takeover by using the most vulnerable as his shield.

Out of curiosity, I looked to see if Chewy had a pet food donation program, and they do:

Enter your location and it lists area organizations, including pet food pantries, and their needs. Also seems to be a good place to start if you are in need of pet food too.

Super critical. Also an important time to remind people that primary care docs and other community health workers in many states can provide utility shutoff protection letters if you have a qualifying medical condition, an infant <12 months old, or are 65+
