"The sick inhabit a shadow-realm where the healthy don't want to tread. They prefer not to find us, to wait until we've overcome our ailments and stand atop Mount Everest with a smile that declares Look How Strong I Was To Get Through This.
Not everything is an inspiring sound-bite story for the healthy to consume and the sick to aspire to. It's not a battle with a winner; disease doesn't pick an opponent to challenge to a duel.
Do something grand and extraordinary to make your sickness relevant, says society. We want our disabled shiny and productive.
I try not to listen to these voices but sometimes, they sound too much like me."
A screenshot of The Sun-Room with the text:
"My little brother knocks on my door and finds me crying on my bed. He's saying goodbye before heading into the city; I can smell his cologne as he folds his arms around me.
I tell him: 'I love when you're home but it also hurts so much.' He asks me why and I say, 'Because you're a living reminder of everything I can't do anymore.' I look at him in this battleground of love and envy. 'I'm sorry.
He hugs me tighter. 'I'm sorry too.'"
A screenshot of The Sun-Room with the text:
"A Google search: 'Help with Intense Anger'
The following paragraph is from Mind:
Do something to distract yourself mentally or physically - anything that completely changes your situation, thoughts or patterns can help stop your anger escalating. For example, you could try: putting on upbeat music and dancing, doing something with your hands, like fixing something or making something.
What the fuck are you supposed to do when you can't change your situation because you carry it with you? My rage is trapped within my body and my body is the cause of my rage. I can only wait to bleed out, waiting, always waiting, for the red to dull to blue.
This is when I cry."

Review text:
Another story I enjoyed was the one by the editor Robin Jo Margeret. This story is maybe the "scariest" of them all really playing into the fact that monster girls at their core are also monsters and can be terrifying. The main character is afraid of the dark and that's thoroughly familiar for me. But what if the dark actually holds a monster? And what if that horrifying monster is actually quite sexy too? The play between those emotions can be a lot of fun and this short story does this exactly right. It leads to a very fun smut scene with some hot moments filled with adrenaline that ends in a very wholesome hug. I had a lot of fun with this one and definitely think it's one of the highlights.

The cover of "She Was Monstress" is surrounded by tropes and sentences about the book. On the top left it says "eARC Review."
The tropes and sentences are:
- Many monster girls having fun
- Hot and Wholesome
- F/F, M/F, F/F/F romance and more
- Varied length of short stories
- Girls that are demons on the outside, and sweethearts on the inside

This was an awesome anthology that gave me so much fun!
This anthology gave me many monster girls to enjoy and damn did I have a good time. The anthology gives heat levels to each story and there was a varied collection of them. The pairings were also very diverse which was great fun as well. All stories were very distinct while having the overarching awesome theme of monster girls.

Review text:
The anthology started strong with one of my favorite ones with "How I Became a Succubus's Pet." This was a longer story about a young man that accidentally summons a sex demon. This story had a lot of emotional tension and a longer buildup towards the monster girl and the young man getting together. I loved how they wanted to get closer but both were too stubborn to, until the point they finally give us a smut scene and things came so satisfactory together.

Review text:
I also really enjoyed "In the Kraken's Grasp." This story is about a kraken in Las Vegas meeting two cute witches at a bar and things lead from there. They eventually drive out of the bar towards a lovely secluded spot where they start getting intimate. I loved it how the two witches both reacted very different to the main character being a kraken making the way they had fun together very different. The way the magic of the witches interacted with the monster girl was really interesting and kept me hooked to the story. At the end I wished I could read more of these girls and the world so maybe that's a good call for me to look up the authors other books.
Some monster girl stories for my monster romance followers!

The text "Nonbinary" stands at the top.
The book Love Unlimited by Reese Morrison with the text:
Love Unlimited is a kinky book that does require you to read the rest of the Love Language series, but if you do and end up at this last sequel everything comes together so well. It's absolutely wholesome and at the same time full of so much amazing kinky sex with Deaf main characters.
The book Felix Ever After by Kacen Callender with the text:
Felix Ever After I read early on in my trans reading journey. It's a book that addresses the struggles of being outed by people you thought safe. It's thus a heavy topic but at the same time it still is such a wholesome book when you finally get to the end. The way the main character sees his gender is also very relatable to me and still means a lot.
The book I Wish You All The Best by Mason Deaver with the text:
I Wish You All the Best is a story rooted in deep mental health struggles. But while the main character is having a hard time at home, there are some wonderful people around them ready to fight for their rights. This story left me sobbing late at night and thinking about it for weeks.
The text "Nonbinary" stands at the top.
The book Fire Spells Between Friends by Sarah Wallace with the text:
This book is a sequel in a series with a just as wonderful fist book. In this book a nonbinary gossip magazine editor secretly sleeps around with this Fae of high station. It's secret, until they both can't hold it in anymore and become this adorable couple that shines so bright they're unmissable.
The book Lakelore by Anna-Marie McLemore with the text:
LakeLore is a story about two neurodivergent teens that each have memories about this place underneath a lake. The way this story uses magical realism was so breathtaking and I was mesmerized from start to finish. The way their neurodiversity is shown with each their own struggles was also something I really enjoyed.
The book The Fox and the Dryad by Kellen Graves with the text:
The Fox and the Dryad is by another one of my favorite authors. This book is about the main character who loves ballet and is forced to perform for a high fey lady and this new mysterious guy who wants to help free them from her. This story about dance and deep feelings made me sob and not forget them both for ages.
The book Youngman, the selected diaries of Lou Sullivan with the text:
This diary collection of Lou Sullivan hit me deep when I was in the middle of bottom surgery preparation. Now having had metoidioplasty just like him makes me look up to him as a trans elder even more. To read about his life in his own words was intense but beautiful and I hope more people will get to know him.
The book Am I Trans Enough from Alo Johnston with the text:
This book came to me at a time I was moving away from the binary label of being a man, beginning to move more towards calling myself a flavor of nonbinary. However at that time I felt a lot of impostor syndrome feelings on not being nonbinary enough to claim that title. This book really helped me to feel confident in my identity.
The book Trans and Disabled edited by Alex Iantaffi with the text:
Trans and Disabled is an anthology I just finished for this Trans Rights Readathon. It has already become a favorite and makes me feel so so much. Hearing others talk about how being trans and disabled is for them made me learn a lot about other flavors of being trans and disabled, but also gave me words to describe my own experience.

The text "Trans Women" stands at the top.
The book Make Room for Love by Darcy Liao with the text:
This was a January read for me and gosh did I love it. This sweet romance between a butch lesbian renting out a room in an apartment to a cute trans girl fleeing her ex was amazing. The way these two were growing towards each other during the book was so fun to read and I couldn't get enough.
The book Light From Uncommon Stars from Ryka Aoki with the text:
Light From Uncommon Stars is a story about a trans girl trying to break through as a violist. But at the same time there is this real fun donut shop that might have owners that aren't completely human. These two parts seem unrelated but come together so well in this heartfelt and funny book.
The book The Subtweet by Vivek Shraya with the text:
The Subtweet was my last book of 2024 and took me by surprise. This book is so full of drama in the ways that make it a great read. Imagine multiple trans woman music artists that keep subtweeting about each other making the hidden fights and friction bigger and bigger over time until it all comes tumbling down.
The text "Trans Men" stands at the top.
The book Spirit Bares it's Teeth from Andrew Joseph White with the text:
A historical horror YA book I greatly enjoyed. Andrew Joseph White has many great books but this one is my favorite. The gore was plenty in this book but gosh so well done. The plot hooked me hard too and didn't let me go. The ending was also extremely lovely and stayed with me for long.
The book Cemetery Boys from Aiden Thomas with the text:
One of the first transmasc books I read and has had a special place in my heart since. I hope to reread it soon with the sequel coming out. This is a book about a queer trans boy and a ghost he summoned and his quest to help this ghost to the afterlife. However many feelings follow, for the characters and me as reader. The ending left me sobbing so hard.
The book As The Light Goes Out by Olive J Kelly with the text:
As the Light Goes Out was very sexually liberating to me. Seeing trans men top other men is absolutely empowering to me. For it then to be wrapped up in this wonderful seaside story about a bipolar guy made it a perfect book for me.
The text "Nonbinary" stands at the top.
The book Godly Heathens by H.E. Edgmon with the text:
Godly Heathens was an eARC I was so proud of to recieve and gosh did it deliver. I had such a good time with this book and it's sequel. This indigenous story about a trans teen figuring out they're actually a god (and so are their friends) is so full of emotions and morally grey teens. Especially the main character is more of a villain than a hero, but gosh it makes for a great story.
The book Model Home by Rivers Solomon with the text:
Model Home was another eARC that blew me away. This book starts as a story about a haunted house but turns into this book adressing intense topics like racism and sexual abuse. Solomon is a favorite of mine discussing these things and this book is another absolute gem.
The book In the Care of Magic by Robin Jo Margaret with the text:
This story about an agender sex demon being summoned by a woman has a special place in my heart. It's short & sweet & spicy and so much fun. I ordered a special edition of this in December so I can show it off in all my posts and love every book Robin Jo Margaret puts out.

Hey everyone,
I've been away from social media for a bit because my life has been really overwhelming.
I've been struggling but still able to cope (made real good progress on my crochet project).
Reading has been a bit harder though and I hope this readathon will get me out of that low. I've only finished one book this month, which is more than others I know, but for me it feels like I lost a hobby that was so essential to who I am.
Reading for trans causes is really motivating however and I hope with a good focus setup I can maybe read three books. Both my partner and I will be donating 5β¬ per read book to the Dutch organization Stichting Transman.
I hope to check instagram and other places more the upcoming days to see everyones lovely posts.
